[FIXED] Items collected in personal inventory are disappearing

    Sometimes items could disappear from your Sim's inventory after travelling. This should no longer happen. Where is my cup of coffee? Oh, okay, it is here…..

    Fixed in Patch 1.68.154/ 1.33

I'm having the same issue - items disappearing from inventory.

Windows 10, playing in English.  I don't have Jungle Adventures.  I have never used CC or mods.  I haven't used any cheats in *this* save, though I have used it in different saves (because I also had the issue where saving a game overwrote a different game, I keep separate save folders for each of my sims/families/games).

My Sim was going around collecting stuff.  One day everything in his inventory disappeared except for the snow globes he'd bought at the flea market.  I repaired the game, but the issue was still there.  Before this issue, I've previously repaired, reset, and completely reinstalled the game trying to fix other bugs (I had the issue where the rocks weren't respawning - either reinstalling or some patch must have fixed that, cause now they're respawning again).  I think this may have started with the last patch - at least I didn't have the issue before then.

I restored the save to a previous save to get all that inventory stuff back (losing, of course, stuff he'd collected since, as well as his roommate's promotion).  I kept a closer eye on the inventory, and sure enough, some items were disappearing randomly.  He'd collect stuff, come home, and the stuff he'd just collected wasn't there.  Also, the elements he'd gotten from the geo council were gone.  The Collections (when you click on the icon in inventory) had them in there, but he no longer owned them.  The missing items are not in the household inventory or the other Sim's inventory or anything like that.

I don't know if related but the snow globes collection was all purchased in the flea market - I mean, my sim never bought a snow globe himself, just bought the whole collection all in one shot at one visit to the flea market - I don't know if that's how it's supposed to work.  Usually at the flea market I can buy a couple collectibles but not the whole collection.  Also, my Sim's roommate is a painter, and she's having the issue where if she leaves the lot, she can't Resume the painting - I have to put it in her inventory then put it back on the easel for her to be able to continue working on it.

Tagging this as needs input for now. Maybe someone can find any kind of pattern on when and how it happens.

Questions though (for everyone posting here)

  • Do you play rotationally ?
  • If you do, did you have a flea market happening while you were playing another family ?
  • What were you doing when you noticed the stuff missing ? After a vacation in GF or S ? Did you travel with your Sim ? 
  • Are you playing an kind of active career ?
  • Which items (type) do go missing ? Only collectibles or other stuff ?

    A. No only one household per save.

    A. N/A

    A. No vacations taken. Sims usually stay at home lot unless going to work. (Not followed to work). Traveled to community or other residential lots before and after items missing.
    Q. Are you playing an kind of active career ?
    A. One save I played the Art Critic career. However he reached the top of the career and switched to Tech Guru. Items were not noticed missing until he had been in his new career and started a family.
    Q. Which items (type) do go missing ? Only collectibles or other stuff ?
    A. Primarily collectible items. At one point a personal diary and random repair parts.
    Note: I used CAS.fulleditmode on the household specifically on the NPC that was added as Spouse.

      I started a new save with new Sim and her Teen daughter. Only played Sunday, Monday and started playing Tuesday.
      Mom went to the GeekCon event while her daughter was at school. When I got the notice her daughter was home from school I used the option to "bring here". She appeared at the festival with only her homework. I know she had her personal diary (Parenthood) and her completed school project plus a packed lunch and Medicine. The items were not in any personal or family inventory.
      Mom only had 3 items and all were there.
      ◇Common factors:
      •Packed lunch was in the inventory when the Teen left for school. It was gone and she had the positive moodlet from it. I just started using the packed lunch option. Probably used same option in the other saves with disappearing items.
      •Sims were brought to join another Sim using the Bring here option. In this new save that was the only common action.

      I had a similar issue:

      When I had a sim joining another household many items in his inventory would disappear. I noticed it would happen only when I was playing with the other household and invited him to join the household. The problem would not happen if I was playing with the sim and make him ask to join the other household.

        Happens here as well. Collected/harvested stuff from expansion packs/game packs just disappear. I had relics from Jungle Adventures and plants (harvested at Spice Festival) & spices (bought at Spice Festival) from City Living being erased, when the sim got home after the annoying loading screen, her inventory was empty.

        Do you play rotationally ?  Does this mean do I play sims on different lots?  If so, no, I only play one family per save (except for a save that I use only for building, but that's a different save file, not this one).  I edited some other lots without the Sim traveling (IOW, from manage worlds) - nothing major though, and no cheats.

        If you do, did you have a flea market happening while you were playing another family ?  No.  My Sim did go to the flea market, and bought all the snow globes.  IIRC, that's not when he lost all the other stuff.

        What were you doing when you noticed the stuff missing ? After a vacation in GF or S ? Did you travel with your Sim ? No vacations.  The first time I noticed it (when everything but the snow globes disappeared), the Sim had traveled - maybe to GeekCon?  Or to the park in Oasis Springs?  I restored from a previous save and I noticed the elements were missing after he'd gone collecting in the area around his home lot.

        Are you playing an kind of active career ?  My Sim is in the Tech Guru career.  His roommate is in Painting.

        Which items (type) do go missing ? Only collectibles or other stuff ?  The only stuff he had in his inventory were collectibles, the snow globes he'd bought at the flea market, and plumbing parts.  The first time, everything in his inventory disappeared except the snow globes - so frogs, crystals, elements, plumbing parts, fruits, all of it.  The second time, the elements disappeared for sure, and I think some other collectibles too.

    Like EuphorialQueen, I have used the Bring Here option, but I think that was after the problem started.  The lot traits are Fast Internet, Home Studio and Haunted - does the Haunted lot trait cause stuff to disappear?  I have the save files if that helps.

        Here are the answers for my first save that had issues.

        • Do you play rotationally ?   I have played rotationally in this file, but not recently. I have also been moving the child and dog to one of my other households for when this family goes on vacation to Selvadorada.
        • If you do, did you have a flea market happening while you were playing another family ?  Since I haven't been playing rotationally for a while in this save, I think the flea market question is probably not applicable.
        • What were you doing when you noticed the stuff missing ? After a vacation in GF or S ? Did you travel with your Sim ? I have three sims in this current household and only one had most of his inventory emptied (see note below). He had just completed the Jungle Adventures aspiration shortly before this happened, they returned home and he did go for work for the day (scientist career but I didn't join him).
        • Are you playing an kind of active career ? The sim who's items went missing is in the scientist career.  I've not played actively in that career for a while. He's either taking vacation or goes on his own, at least the last number of times I've played. 
        • Which items (type) do go missing ? Only collectibles or other stuff ? I noticed the majority of his inventory was missing which included collectibles, his scientist inventions, relics and I believe some books he wrote. 

        I did end up recovering at a previous stage in the save and he had all his items then so I just played through again.  I just went into the save and his inventory appears full. FYI all three sims have a lot in their inventory because they've been digging at a lot of dig sites, plus I keep plants in their inventories for them to eat. make sure the items didn't disappear after saving.  


        Here are my answers for my second save that I noticed issues with:

        • Do you play rotationally ? Not in this save, this is the only household I'm playing.
        • If you do, did you have a flea market happening while you were playing another family ? N/A
        • What were you doing when you noticed the stuff missing ? After a vacation in GF or S ? Did you travel with your Sim ? I have traveled with this family to both GF and S but the books went missing when they were on their home lot. 
        • Are you playing an kind of active career ? Neither sim (it's a couple) are employed.
        • Which items (type) do go missing ? Only collectibles or other stuff ? I've only noticed skill books going missing (I don't pay attention to other books so wouldn't notice if they went missing 🙂 ). In this save I've noticed Vampire Lore skill books going missing.  I'm pretty sure I've had to buy the third skill book three times and it's gone missing again (I'm having them both learn the skill and they are not vampires). I saw the sim reading it and she stopped to interact with her husband and when I went to get her to read it again it wasn't in either of their inventories, it wasn't on the bookshelf, nor the family inventory and the option to clean up books wasn't available so it does not appear to be somewhere on the lot. As background, their inventory is also quite full as they've been collecting everywhere (S, GF and at home) as I'm working on a challenge with them that they are supposed to complete all the base game collections (and I've expanded it to include the OR and JA collections too).

        FYI, I think I've noticed skill books, and in particular the vampire lore book, going missing in other saves, but I play a lot of saves so always chalked it up to my bad memory. I currently play with no mods/cc, though have used MCC in the past.  I clear my game cache regularly (pretty much every time I play).  I also repair fairly frequently, but will try doing that again. My game is current with updates and I have all the packs. I play on Windows 10.

    Ok so this problem has just happened to me. I only have one save with multiple different households. Of all my households this has just happened with my new character I created 4 days ago. 

    • Do you play rotationally ? Yes
    • If you do, did you have a flea market happening while you were playing another family ? Did go to a flea market and purchased a chair which is still in my household inventory but the 2 snowglobes I bought are missing from my personal inventory but they show as found in my collection.
    • What were you doing when you noticed the stuff missing ? After a vacation in gf or s ?
    • Did you travel with your sim ? I noticed the first time at work as a scientist when I went to make a serum and I did not have the stuff I needed when I know I have them the last time I was at work. Then I kept playing thinking nothing of it as maybe I used them for cooking. Then I realized after picking up a bunch of stuff during my shift and after like frog, crystals and other collectable items they were all gone.
    • Are you playing an kind of active career ? Yes, scientist
    • Which items (type) do go missing ? Only collectibles or other stuff ? Only collectible stuff. Anything grown and harvested, seed packets, anything found from digging.

    I am still playing around to see if it is a specific trigger but I have not been able to figure it out. Also I have left the household with the issue and have not had that issue with any other household. The household with the issue is one sim who is a collector and scientist. I have another household who was a doctor and never had these issues with her when I joined her for work. I was testing my problem sim. I purchased a seed package, opened it. Went to manage worlds to another household. Went back to her and the veggies were gone.

    Had this just happen in a different save and has an added twist. 

    Questions

    • Do you play rotationally? Yes, i downloaded Jenba's save and have been making my way through the families. Currently, I'm in the Koehler household. 🙂
    • If you do, did you have a flea market happening while you were playing another family? no flea market happening in this hh, but other hh's have visited.
    • What were you doing when you noticed the stuff missing? 2nd day, kids were missing homework when dad came home from work and I became suspicious. 
    • Are you playing any kind of active career? Scientist
    • Which items (type) do go missing? Only collectibles or other stuff? anything from the 2 girls' inventories goes "poof" (ex. homework, the excellence bunny award) Not sure if dad's items have gone missing yet, but something else happened with him. Upon arriving home from work, I get the pop-up about item(s) being removed...1 build item removed, I think. (Not sure what as there's no cc in this build and I didn't notice anything removed) When I opened up his inventory, all the items were doubled and could not be removed even when taken out. :/ Exited, deleted the cache. Loading up again, I think that cleared up the duplicates. IDK about the rest of the problem, though. Hmm. Back to exploring.

        In addition to the save I sent, I just got an interesting last exception file that could possibly help?!? It's from the same save file, of something that just happened.

        For context, there are 3 teenagers and 2 parents in this household. One teen sim had made some sculptures and they were displayed throughout the house. When I loaded up this save today I received the attached last exception file--missing were all the sculptures made/displayed and a few misc. items -- 1 sim's homework, an unfinished school projects, maybe a painting or 2...inventory items. The flowers that I had sold out of the sims' inventories last play session were also back in their inventories.

        IDK if it will help, but maybe.... 🙂

    I've been playing only IL  since last Friday.  The grandmother and her granddaughter.  The grandmother could harvest coconuts after the plant matured but they never showed up in her inventory.  She did catch a coconut when fishing and I saw it in her inventory but when she got back to her lot and went to plant the coconut it was missing.  The taro and pineapple plants never matured.  The granddaughter was able to harvest a taro root ( after her grandmother died ) but now there are no pineapple plants to be found and only one coconut tree plant which hasn't matured. I'm afraid when they do grow mature it won't matter.  She also lost all new seeds from seed packets left by the gnomes.  It was maddening.  Have all the TS4 games to date and never download CC.  Not noticed anything else missing.

      @Gramcrackrs Some items do disappear after traveling I have found. Doesn't affect going to work but happens after going to one of the other islands for fishing. Can't find the original area with info I read here. My bookmarks like to disappear also, I guess.

Started with university but then I started noticing it happening with other stuff. Vacations can bring stuff home sometimes, sometimes not. But typically things disappear between travel. No items that are pack specific.
    • Are you playing an kind of active career ? Doctor with one that regularly has items missing.
    • Which items (type) do go missing ? Only collectibles or other stuff ? University items to be sure when traveling to and from class. I have had missing bikes, laptops, books, and presentation boards which are the most maddening. I have mods to make the game more realistic so one is so my sims have menstrual cycles. I put a box of tampons in my sims inventory but they go missing every time my sim travels. I think the university expansion is more infuriating. Tempted to delete everything and reinstall all but Uni. It's so broken it should have been given out free, buyer beware.

    I have another bug I'm working on involving house calls shutting down the doctors work day progress and have been taking mods out as trial and error. I'll post more info if I notice anything else missing.

      Hi I have just noticed a problem myself. I have had no trouble with my collectable items, at least not that I have noticed. I have however had clues for making the strangerville dossier go missing if I leave the secret lab. Then return to it to look again. I also had a sim gain a lot of power sip from a university video gaming competition, I was very excited, I traveled to place it in my lot and boom. Missing. 

      I do not play rotationally. This is in my super sim save/family so it is a long running save and my sims have had a lot of things happen to them eg. become vampires, cured, become spellcasters, die multiple times. 

      This happened when leaving then returning to the strangerville secret lab for the strangerville clues, and traveling in general for the powersip. 

      my sim is currently in the military career.

      the items I have missed are power sip, power sip chair, and power sip poster, also strangerville clues to form a dossier.
