    This is definitely false. Uncontrolled Sims can most certainly grab a serving from the buffet table autonomously when they're hungry (Sims spawned on community lots are typically not hungry until they stayed there for a long time.)

    Was it like this for you from the start or did it change at some point (aka, is it something they might have fixed ?)

      I'm pretty sure it's this way from the start. There really isn't anything special about the buffet table once you fill it. Sims will grab a serving from it just like they grab a serving of food placed on any other regular table.
