Ok, for some reason it killed my second paragraph. Odd
Was saying I cleared out all CC, all cache and made two new games with exactly the same setup. But with one with a character with perfectionist trait, one without. The one with perfectionist was scrapping her paintings still. The without didn't (and instead became obsessed with his phone, but to be fair, I didn't give him anything else but the room and an easel.)

This is intended behavior. If a Sim with the Perfectionist trait create a painting that is not of sufficient quality he may scrap it and start over. You can to some extent counteract it by having more than one easel. On the plus side they will eventually become level 10 where the likelihood of painting a masterpiece is much higher.

Having more than 1 easel makes no difference at all, they use the same easel repeatedly. Even at level 10 painting they still scrap them.
My SIM also autonomously uses the woodworking table repeatedly, but the finished item goes into the inventory, which is what I believe should also happen with the paintings. I have no issue with them retrying, its the scrapping that's the issue.

Yeah, I agree. Like a previous user said, it's a problem when they're doing reference paintings that can't be recreated. If the unfinished work went into the inventory, we'd have the option to go back to it later, at least. I'm hoping this is a bug or something that can be tweaked, but also I'll also want to keep in mind not to let a perfectionist sim craft important reference paintings in the future...
