Looks like this issue got ninja fixed in one of the past two patches

This save (made on PC under Windows 11 with no mods but many expansions under version 1.89.214.1030) has a freshly made grilled cheese sandwich packed in a sack lunch sitting on a table in one of the lots in Strangerville, next to the player sim. Telling the sim to put the sack lunch in inventory results in the sack lunch hanging in air, throwing a last exception. Telling the sim to put the sack lunch in the refrigerator succeeds, but then opening the refrigerator inventory and telling the sim to put it in her inventory results in the sack lunch hanging in air, throwing a last exception. Trying to drag the sack lunch into the sim's inventory or the refrigerator fails.
