I have had a problem with my sheltered plants too. It seems like so many actions turn established plants into dirt piles. I have had them turn to dirt piles after harvesting, after fertilizing them, after going into plan outfits from the mirror, after coming back from another lot, and when a season changes ( and sometimes it is the season the plants are supposed to grow that they revert to dirt piles, sheltered of course ). Too many things seem to affect their reverting to dirt piles.
Gardening in one of the most important features of the sims 4 to me. Some of my sims depend on gardening for their income, so it has become a real game breaker for me. I play a game that has been around since 2014, and it has become so frustrating that I often avoid playing the game now. I have never used mods or CC, and I have bought every pack so far, but regular long lasting game breaking bugs are beginning to enter my game now.
Sheltered and non sheltered plants revert to dirt pile at 7am in game time
ETA:
As I wrote that my plants revert at 7am, I did a few more tests and played the game a couple more sim days and 7am is not always the case, BUT it sure happens sometimes when a rabbit comes in to help gardening. As you can see in my first picture, there is a rabbit who just did his job on my plants and they revert right after. Bringing all the animals into the game to help on gardening also has an effect on the plants reverting in my game.

I am playing on PC with all expansion, game, and stuff packs installed and having the same issue. Plants are reverting to dirt piles at around 7am. I have tried removing mods, changing lots, sheltering and not sheltering, and they are still reverting to dirt piles. I thought it was only happening when going to manage worlds or traveling, but it occurred today while my sim was in the space ship.

- merrysimmaker3 years agoSeasoned Veteran@LuvMySimz Agreed, ongoing issue but I did not realize it was another game bug. I added a mod that is working on most plants to keep their growth. I also tried sheltering them and that helped with the ones that go out of season obviously as it should but I still have random mounds of dirt that shouldn't be. Mine happens across all lots I've tried and also in a new game save.
