Workaround for Workbench obsession (Tested)
Build a room with a door for the workbenches.
Lock the door to 'Everyone'.
My Sims lived in a tent on a lot in Newcrest with no real walls. They were obsessed with the workbench from the moment it was placed on the lot.
I was finding many pieces in their personal inventories along with unfinished pieces on the workbenches and in family inventory.
I wanted them to use the workbench to built furniture instead of buying it but no sooner did they finish one statue they would start another one.
When Lance reached Level 10 handiness I decided to keep the workbenches on the lot but not readily accessible.
I was expecting a lot of "cannot get there from here" hand waving and commotion but after a full Sim week this has not happened.
