Rare and uncommon harvestables will now be produced at higher rates when splicing.
So we actually got this changed in Patch 1.58.63
EA Staff (Retired)Splicing can produce a new harvestable, but there's supposed to be a lower chance that it does this. This is by design. For example, grafting a rose to a grape for bonsai buds will have the plant produce roses OR grapes OR bonsai buds, with the bonsai buds having the lowest chance.
So if you're not seeing the new harvestable, I think it might just be a case of bad luck 🙂

My issue with this change is it also lowers the change of getting other things that depend on having one of the spliced harvestables.

I like the five step evolution idea in the upgraded gardening system but thought it was supposed to make things easier.
Not happening and leads to frustration.

I understand the intent of the rare packets. ❤️ I am grateful they are available. Getting ONE Bonsai Bud /maybe/ for 250 simoleons or worse paying 1000 simoleons for two magic beans .. ?
I love this game and I am not going anywhere. I just don't want it to be impossible to complete certain goals within the limits set by the game.

@SimGuruNickCan you explain why you decided to change this? Just to make it more difficult? Also why was this not spoken about when describing the gardening changes? I don't really see the benefit in turning splicing into a grind or making your sims pay for the seed packets (unless you knew what you were getting like in real life). It definitely hasn't made it more enjoyable for me - it's just turned gardening (which I found fun) into a horrible grind for a 5% chance of getting a dragon fruit or orchid XD and don't I feel pathetic for even caring about this 😢

I've been playing 2 ingame sims weeks and haven't got a single spliced harvestable.
Is there a better chance if we wait sims days for more harvestables to be on the plant or is it luck overall?
I'm honestly not a fan of this change purely because it's turned gardening into a grind now instead of fun. Love all the other changes though 🙂
Great for you to finally let us know about this nerf.
I am so glad my garden was super well established before this last patch/expansion as they sure did nerf garden splicing. And worse they did it with zero communication. Greenhouses are now mandatory for year round profit as most plants only produce one season a year yet require 3 seasons worth of care, splicing is a bad joke, and well seed packets are random and the best way to get rare seeds. This is by design but very annoying making gardening less fun. This isn't counting the forever watering/weeding/spraying for bugs bug, the can't buy the rare seed packets bug or the disappearing scarecrow bug. I used to enjoy gardening and every non-apartment living sims family had one but at this time I am frustrated with it.
This lack of communication added to lack of communication on other areas of the game like say cheats, sure is frustrating. Nerfs aren't fun, but sometimes needed, but surprise nerfs they tell use about a week or so later, after we spend time trying to fix (clearing cache files, repairing the game, looking for fixes on the forums and the like) the intended nerf thinking it is a bug, that is not acceptable. Some goes with the cheats nerf.
The way they handled communication for the last few patches and Seasons is very irritating to say the least. Now at least we know and can move on. Sure wish they put this is the patch notes. 3 or 4 sentences would have saved everyone some time. I am not happy with how this information was released.
I am happy to announce that after much trial and error (and very impatient waiting) I have grown both a dragon fruit and bonsai bud. There doesn't seem to be anything bug wise, it is just simply a matter of waiting.
How many sim days have you played/seasons passed? I have built an amazing garden but my grafted plants produce only the origin plants even though they show all 3 of them 😢😢😢😢😢😢

I don't think it's just bad luck, I really think there is a problem.
I managed to grow plantains and parsley from splicing plants in a greenhouse, no issue. I realise these are not rare.
I cannot grow dragonfruit, bonsai buds, pomegranite or birds of paradise. I haven't tried the other rare ones because I don't have the base plants needed yet. It's been well over 50 sim days, four seasons and I've tried two different games with two different sims and two different growing situations
- I've tried in a green house and out of a greenhouse
- my greenhouse walls are maximum height so trees are growing fine
- i have a thermostat in the greenhouse, I've tried with and without the thermostat
- I have lots of beehives
- I've tried splicing both types of plants (i.e. for dragonfruit I tried splicing a snapdragon onto a strawberry plant and grafting a strawberry plant onto a snapdragon plant)
- the spliced plants show all 3 types of plants that can grow, but only the original spliced ones are growing (i.e. strawberries and snapdragons, cherries and apples)
- all plants are tended regularly and fertilised, some are of excellent quality
- my sim is level 10 gardening skill, level 9 botany career
I realise these three plants are rare, but they can't be "won't grow in 50 days" rare, that seems excessive.
I've been playing the game for 7 days (non-sim days) for a minimum of 5 hours a day. My original adult sim has had two children and gone through several life milestones. I currently have my game set to the longest lifespan. I spliced plants as soon as it was possible and for days, sim months, I have not gotten any results from grafting/splicing. I know this is supposed to not be a bug, but I can't imagine anyone's luck being this bad. I have basically been playing this game like I have no life, splicing/grafting and trying to get these plants for my collection etc. and it's not possible. I don't believe it's working as intended.
My spliced plants produce everything except the spliced result. For example, my perfect strawberries are spliced with snapdragons, and I have never, NEVER gotten a dragon fruit, I've never gotten bonsai buds, I've never gotten orchids.
I do not play with mods, have never played with mods, and my game is updated. At this point I'm extremely frustrated because for the hours I've poured into this, this isn't something that seems like a feature, or just bad luck on my end.
Being inherently unlucky in real life I hate any system based on luck. 😉
Update:
Same game, I have had a spliced plant (well 3) to produce an Orchid since my character was a young adult. Now, while I have been very studious in keeping my main characters youthful the children of the first generation are dying of old age (Lifespan set to Long).
Still, no Orchid
Any chance that the timer may be a little extreme?
I used to grow dragonfruit ALL THE TIME with no problems. The plants would become fully harvestable (10 dragonfruit per plant i think?) and would follow the usual cycle of evolution etc. Since I downloaded Seasons (as soon as it came out) whenever I try to graft snapdragon & strawberry together, the spliced plant just does not grow dragonfruit and also does not become fully harvestable, bearing only 2 harvestables of snapdragon & strawberry. I tried to work around this and went through the buy-debug cheat and bought some dragonfruit seeds through that. I plant them, and they grow until they are fully grown, but do not become fully harvestable. I've tried in numerous games, and currently they have been growing for more than 100 sim days, with no evolution opportunities, and hardly any harvestables - only 4 per plant? It seems to be a bug that's been happening for months with no fix?

Ive been trying to harvest Pomegranates for over a year now, sims time. I don't have the Seasons EP. I have my gardening skill maxed out, do everything right, have multiple (like 20 trees) and still no poms. It's getting a bit frustrating. It would be a bit ridiculous if I had to buy an EP just to get a pom. Please help!!!
