Check this thread - some players (myself included) are encountering a bug where the game generates hundreds of empty households after playing in Henford-on-Bagley, which causes the save file to balloon in size (mine skyrocketed to 60000kb), which is what causes the unplayable lag. Unfortunately, deleting the empty households (whether manually or with a mod like MCCC, which is much faster/easier than going through and deleting all those empty households one by one) doesn't solve the save bloat issue.
If you still have backup saves that are a reasonable file size (like under 10000kb), I recommend backing those up before they get overwritten. If you reload one of those old less bloated saves, download MCCC, and use it to delete the empty households before trying to play the game again, you might be able to salvage your save that way, so long as the empty households don't generate again. Personally, I didn't have backups and I can't play my main save anymore because I can't get the size below 30000kb, even though the empty households are deleted and no longer generating. :/

Oh wait - there isn't a fix yet though... See Maxis / EA NEEDS TO ADDRESS THIS AND HELP US!!!

- 5 years ago@bubonickitten I believe you are correct! When I went to my other households - there were just tons and tons of them - they all had names for the households BUT after the ones I created basically - they were just blank - no faces or images would pop-up. Does this sounds like what you are experiencing as well? If so - I don't understand why EA / Maxis is not acknowledging this, commenting on it, and coming up with a resolution?
