I do see the book ending up on the floor but that's not really a problem cause I don't get the Sims still reading.
Did you cancel the interaction for this to happen ?
How many times have you tried this ?
EDIT: I tested this with MCCC in and get the behavior you describe. I think this is interfering with the Put Away Book fix in the mod. Are you sure you tested this on a modless new game ?
I did remove all mods for the final couple of testings. Testing first with the few Mods I use was a disaster so then all out to confirm issues still present. One test I made was to buy a bookshelf to see if she would put away the book properly. No dice.
