[FIXED] [HSY] Sims with high logic skill can't complete Chess Fair puzzle

Product: The Sims 4
Platform:PC
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
What is your current game version number? 1.97.62.1020
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? All expansions, all game packs but Journey to Batuu, My Wedding Stories, and Werewolves, all stuff packs.
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Try to solve the chess puzzle at the chess fair in High School Years with more than 6 logic skill.
What happens when the bug occurs? When sims with more than 6 logic skill try to complete the chess puzzle at the high school chess fair, they won't make any progress, they just sit there. Sims with 6 logic skill or less can complete the puzzle.
What do you expect to see? Sims with more than 6 logic skill should be able to complete the chess puzzle.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Not now. I've removed them.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Neutral/Not Sure

Hi, so, I recently tried the chess fair in High School Years for the first time. My teenage sim had level 7 logic skill, and when she tried doing the chess puzzle, she sat there for the entire festival with no progress bar appearing for the interaction. The interaction stayed in her queue for the whole festival, and she didn't get up at any point or do anything else. Other sims in her family were able to complete the chess puzzle, though, and they did get a progress bar for the interaction when they attempted it (but not her). I tested it more and it seems like level 6 logic skill is the cutoff; sims with level 6 or less logic skill can complete the chess puzzle just fine, but sims with more than 7 can't. I originally had mods in my game, but I tested it without them and had the same issue.

I actually took a look at the XML for the interaction itself in Sims 4 Studio and it seems like exit conditions for the interaction don't exist beyond level 6? It actually looks like it's testing exit conditions for skill levels 4 to 6, and then testing for skill levels 0 to 3 twice. I'm not sure what the best way to screenshot it all is, but you can hopefully see what I mean here:

There's two different tests for skill levels 0 through 3 in the "flexible length" section of the XML (I minimized the test for levels 4 to 6). I was able to fix the issue myself by making a mod changing the "lower bound" skill level to 7 and the "upper bound" skill level to 10 in the second set of tests, but a mod isn't going to help console players if they end up running into the same issue, so I thought I should report it as well.

  • I had this issue, too. My sim with level 9 logic just sat there and didn't do anything. I cheated her skill level down to 6 using MCCC (not that it mattered anyway, since there was no judge), then back up afterward, but it's insane that there needs to be a workaround at all. This seems like something that would be so easy to just... not do.

    Hey all,

Just checking in to see if anyone is still seeing this on a modless game as we've been unable to reproduce it on our end.

If so please share your save file with us (instructions: http://x.ea.com/74420) so we can take a look.

    Thanks!

  • I have always had this issue. You can click on the judge and submit your score but the sim never does it automatically. I actually thought it was how it worked. I always save before going to the tournaments also because I would say 40% of the time they never show up. Reloading seems to work for this.

  • Sims are now able to complete the Chess Fair puzzle.
