Non Welcome Wagon Guest NPCs have Fruitcake

Question

I have been trying to complete the Old Lace achievement, but my Guest NPCs keep having fruitcake when they show up (even when I invite them over). They end up getting more and more. I'm currently playing OSX, but I had the problem on Windows 10 as well. Basically, they just have the fruitcake in their inventories and eat it as they get hungry, so they are impossible to kill by starvation.

Were you able to kill NPCs by starvation before the welcome wagon update ?

Did you check if the NPCs actually have a fruitcaske in their inventory ?
