If you for some reason have associated .package files with a program you may only see "localthumbcache" without the extension. But you will have it since it is generated when you start the game. Since it works in a new save it looks like your old save was permanently damaged. Sometimes outdated mods do that. Try to restore an older version of that save and see if that will work. If it does make a backup and start testing your Mods. There are a few that are known to be broken with the new career and needs updating or removing.
Well I do not have it all despite what you say so you'll just have to accept it. I was not using any mods and had not for a couple of months at least without any problems.
Perhaps because other people are also experiencing this, some in new games from scratch and not long-term save files it is not a problem with my individual save file and may be caused by a bug in the game? I know you guys like to place the blame squarely on anyone experiencing a glitch but the sims has a lot of bugs all the time.

Try to look a little harder to see if you should not have this file that you can see at the bottom of this screenshot here:
The reason we always suspect mods is that in the majority of cases that turns out to be the case So when I can't replicate an issue in my game the first thing I suspect is Mods/CC. so start troubleshooting there. There are a couple of threads where it has been determined that Mods are the case. Please see if you can use solutions mentioned there.

@jpkarlsen
Alright I did find the cache file after the 5th time looking. It's not like there are a lot of files to look through so I don't know why I could not find it. I deleted it and am repairing the game through orgin for the 3rd time. I have about 26 packs so it takes awhile and I will absolutely update and let you know if this is a possible solution.
I have already stated multiple times there are no mods in use and the folder is empty. If you don't have any not mod-related suggestions to give me I will simply give up and hope there is a patch for this down the road. - 5 years ago
@jpkarlsen
So deleting that file and repairing the game did not work.If my save file is somehow corrupted from some long-ago use of mods I am screwed because this is a generational game already in it's 17th generation; losing out on over 7 generations and paying $33 for the pleasure is ridiculous.
You wanna go ahead and blame mods and consider this solved be my guest but I will just have to abandon this file and hope there is a patch for it down the road. It is just a shame because I was really looking forward to this pack.- jpkarlsen5 years agoHero (Retired)
You already confirmed that it worked in a new game without Mods so we know that it was caused by mods. Permanent damage to a save usually happens because the user notices something in his save and do a Save and Exit making the issue permanent. The correct thing to do in such a situation is to exit without saving. As I wrote earlier you can try to restore an older save (The game saves 4 backups) from before this happened. In the future I will recommend making a backup of the Saves folder when there is an update to the game so it will be easy to restore everything in case something happens.
