Just wanted to add a "me too" to this. Happened when I bought snow globes at the flea market from a vendor's table.

I like the Fleas Market and find it a great way to get furniture and lamps at a discount for my financially challenged Sims.
The issue seems to be focused on the items purchased from the Street Table. Specifically items that go into personal inventory and seem to be duplicated in household inventory.
@simvasion has already posted a great description of what happens.
Using the Street Table to sell items seems to be okay.
Edit to add: Zero CC and Zero Mods - Same happens in both established and new saves. Repair or using same save in new fresh folder does not resolve.
