There's currently no real solution but it should only affect your current save game.
Keep your save somewhere for later and play a new one until Maxis fixes this bug.
If you absolutely wanna play, try these suggestions.
Check if you can find any household that loads. If you do, enter that one and invite the Sim that you last played over. Go back to the map and play with the household that didn’t load previously on the lot they currently are. Then travel home.
Enter the lot in build mode, change a few things, switch to live mode and see if it loads.
Rename Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4 to Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4_Old
Start the game. All your content will be gone now as the game created a new folder. All your saves/.. is still in the old folder so not to worry
Close the game
Copy your save games from Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4 to Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4_Old\Saves to the new Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4 to Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\Saves
Start your save game
Check if you still have the error
Report back with your results for further steps on how to get your stuff back.
Your note about it being only your current save file with the bug was super helpful! I use MCCC and I have auto-save turned on. Switching over to my most recent auto-save file worked to be able to load my household again. I had to go back in time a day and will now have to re-edit a couple of sims when they age up again, but that's definitely worth it to me.
