I'm a bit tired so it might be different though.
It seems that if you have a "stack" of fish or plants in inventory and you queue up fertilizing the animation for fertilizing plays but not all the plants in the queue are being fertilized. Some are fertilized and some are skipped. However, the items in inventory disappear as if they've been used. That is if you have 10 goldfish in a stack and you fertilize 10 plants not all the plants will be fertilized, but all the goldfish will be used.
If you have 10 different fish or plants (not in stacks) in inventory to fertilize 10 plants with, all the plants get fertilized.
I don't know if this is intended or a new bug, but it makes fertilizing a large garden challenging.
I haven't run through the above scenarios enough times - or tried them out in a vanilla save - to be really certain, so maybe someone else could test it.
Adding: Switched households. Five in queue. (The three plants on the porch the two next to the Flower Arranging table.) Five Growfruit in stack. First plant and fifth plant were fertilized - or first and last. One Growfruit was used.

It seems like a "stack" issue. You can't use items in a "stack" to fertilize plants. Or rather, if you use "stacked" items some plants are "fertilized" while some are skipped even though the animation plays.
Adding: I've been buying fish from the Fish of the Day stand in BB and noticed that the type of fish once again effects how often you need to fertilize. This was the case long ago, but seemed to be less so after the big gardening update around Seasons. Not sure when this changed.
Still, a "stack" of fish fertilizes some plants and not others.
My workaround is to buy multiples of all the fish, queue up a 8 different fish, wait until the queue finishes and then start again with a new queue. Repeat.
- jmeadowbrook6 years agoRising Hotshot@DizzyDee-K It's a new bug since the last update. One can temporarily beat the bug by using a different type of fertilizer on each plant that one queues up. Fertilizer with a §0 value and dog poopies don't seem to work at all. I hope I have been helpful. @crinrict
