Product: The Sims 4
Platform:PC
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Often (50% - 99%)
What is your current game version number? PC: 1.103.315.1020
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? All Expansions expect -> Horse Ranch All Game Packs expect -> Journey to Batuu, Werewolves, Strangerville and Outdoor Retreat Stuff Packs -> Home Chef Hustle, Tiny Living, My first pet stuff, Moshcino, Laundry Day, Vintage Glamour, Perfect Patio, Toddler stuff, Bowling night, Romantic Garden, Luxury Party, and Kids Room Stuff
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Playing the game as normal with the new For Rent small appliances and the new For Rent lights
What happens when the bug occurs? Spontaneous Combustion of items. Even when they are not turned on or being used, they combusted into flames randomly.
What do you expect to see? No combustion of any appliances or lights when they are not being used.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Yes
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Neutral/Not Sure

whilst playing with my game today, i had 3 random fires start in my home that is mainly using the new "For Rent" expansion pack build items. i have never had this issue before the pack or with any of my mods im currently using. I did try this without mods and cc. the issue still prevailed.
i did however replace the lights in my sims home from the new for rent lights to some base game ones and this has so far resolved the issue. but i'd still like to keep note that the for rent lights are causing random fires in game.

It also happens after the cursed book event in a rental lot.

Everything catches fire: bed, stairs, chairs, glasses, and even the sims themselves

  • Just want to understand that there is no fix for this yet? it is happening to me just after doing the cursed book (for rent-no mods or cc)- its like every five minutes.

  • I'm having the same problem. It started with the "cursed book"-event. My Sim is unplayable. I can't even invite her into other Sims' houses, because random fires will start and burn stuff rather quickly! Moving her into another lot won't help. Fires where she goes! It's so annoying!

I stopped playing the other family, as soon as this bug occured, because I was getting annoyed with re-decorating their home three times a Sim-day and having them have this tense moodlet all of the time. I disabled the events in the settings.

    Tested without Mods!

Will there ever be a patch?

  • Having the same issue. It seems that the Cursed Book from For Rent may be the culprit. Rugs are catching fire, a couple of tables caught fire… even the baby's crib spontaneously combusted! My Sim mailed away the Book, and I don't know if the "curse" is because of that, or — if so — how long it lasts. But the constant fires are ridiculous! For now, I'm not playing with that lot challenge until this is fixed!

@LydsSimmer Yep, I have experienced the same thing too and I use no mods or Custom Content. I was successful in getting rid of that stupid book and still things catch on fire. Between stuff disappearing from book shelves, fridges, etc. that continues to be ignored and the fires breaking out from a cursed book that I don't want to even have in my game... I will not play any rental lots. What a waste of a DLC if you can't even use it the way it was intended... but that seems to be an ongoing theme will all Sims 4 products.

Why doesn’t ea have actual tech support?

For two days now my game has become unplayable. I moved my family out of a rental into a house they own and suddenly items were catching fire. Cribs, tables, chairs, beds everything. It happens multiple times a sim day. I don’t have any mods or ccs. I tried fire cheat codes, don’t work. Fears aren’t turned on. No curses. I have moved my family 3 times. Today has been the worst. Moved to a new house, decorated and within 5 seconds of pressing play the changing table caught fire! The sprinkle system put it out. I paid the money to replace. Cleaned the floor and then it set fire again! It’s been one sim day and have had 4 fires. I can’t play like this. Any help would be appreciated since EA offers none.
  • After getting the For Rent pack recently, things in my Sim's home start combusting randomly? I can't go 10 minutes without several fires? Some are like electrical but just now her entire unit burned down because the baby's changing table combusted twice within 5 minutes?? I tried a cheat code to stop fires but it didn't work and its like. unplayable. She can't even interact with her baby when theres a fire on the lot so it literally was just on the floor surrounded by flames. I had to close the game because it's so annoying.

It just sucks because I spent so long on her storyline because it's my first for rent household and im trying to do a legacy thing and now I have lost all motivation to play the game.

@ArtisticDaydream I feel your frustration. There are numerous important issues that are in great need of repair. Yet another fix was just sent out today and not one of these major issues we have been complaining about are fixed... just the smaller and more insignificant, annoying little details get addressed. I find this site to seek help as a serious joke. It so sad to say this.

Same. I've barely played the game which used to be multiple times a day but now I have fires at least 6 times a day. My baby set fire. It's unplayable. There's NO EA Support. It's a joke considering how much we pay. If they can't fix something that makes the game unplayable then how do they expect any more of my money, which is the only thing they care about.
