Is there a chance that you don't need to water because it rained recently? Rain will water your plants for you. Or perhaps sprinklers, or Patchy the scarecrow watering them on his own? Also keep in mind that weeds, water need and bugs were all purposefully slowed down as part of the new gardening design. The weather can also be a factor, for example bugs happen more often in spring and blazing heat in the summer makes your plants need twice as much water.
If you're positive that rain/sprinklers/Patchy aren't watering your garden, and it seems like your plants are truly invincible and never drink water, I would appreciate a save file to help us investigate. You can find more info for sending me your save in the following link, thanks much! https://answers.ea.com/t5/Bug-Reports/INFORMATION-How-to-Send-User-Files-to-The-Sims-4-Team/m-p/6065...

@SimGuruNick I will get you that save file when I switch my pc on as I have later over 18 in game days with the plants in a greenhouse and haven’t had to water/weed once that whole time in my game. My plants are constantly healthy in the greenhouse too.
I definitely can’t water as it says this plant does not need water. And it’s the same for weeds in one of my games. The other game! The plants are outside in planters and I have had the weed option come up once but no water option. Some of the plants are dormant currently that required water and some don’t. So am kinda confused as to if it’s on that game or not.
I do know for sure however that my seasons game in the greenhouse I have not watered or weeded once so my Freelance botanist ambition has not been able to progress from the first stage. I do not have sprinklers in my indoors greenhouse either.

Just wanted too add to that I haven’t yet got to a friendship level with patchy to have him come to life so he couldn’t be watering the plants for me

Can it be that the the new synchronization of watering for all plants is responsible for this issue? I have played through autumn and winter now and my plants outside have got almost daily water through rain and snow. If they don't need water, perhaps the plants inside the greenhouse don't need it either.

Here is my save from today; I'm playing under Hines. Never shared my save file before, so hopefully I did this right. I'd like to preface this by stating I do NOT have the seasons expansion.
I have not played Sims4 since 4/14 and the last 3 updates were installed this morning. I started a new save (Hines) with no mods on and after the 3rd of 4th time I left the lot and came back, I realized the plants were dripping wet even though they weren't watered. I did have weeds appear for the first time, though.
If there's any more info I should provide please let me know. TY

I have encountered the same bug - I just watched water dripping off of the plants that are in a planter on my second floor balcony, despite my lack of water, sprinklers, or rain, since I don't have the Seasons. I want to have my character complete the Freelance Botanist aspiration, but if I can't water ever, it's not going to happen.

I don't have seasons but after it came out I've been unable to water my plants everyday or weed them. If I use testing cheats I can set the plant to be thirsty in a couple in game hours. Every time I leave the lot and come back the plants look like they were just watered. I have mods but I don't think my mod affects the game. (If you must know it's the 'woohoo' mod. I've installed and uninstalled this mod before the patch a couple of times but it never affected the gardening skill.)
[Edited by EA_Mai: please, don't name this kind of mods (not appropriate for all ages)]

I don't have Seasons so how is it that I don't have to water my plants everyday like before and sometimes weed and spray? They're the same. The only I can work my way up to evolve them is fertilizing them.
- crinrict8 years agoHero+The whole system has been revamped, so that they need less. Since the overhaul came with the patch, you'll be affected with or without seasons. It's all slower now but if you think it's not working as intended, please remove your mods, test without and if it's still happening, provide your save as @SimGuruNick asked here: https://answers.ea.com/t5/Bug-Reports/OPEN-Gardening-Plants-don-t-need-water-or-weeding-in-games/m-p/6894915#M66189
