Just so we're on the same page here:
- Placed DJ Booth and DJ Floor on the home lot
- Choose Control Panel - Radio Setting - Electronica/Pop/Retro
- Tried to dance --> Error ?
If so
- Which music style did you choose ?
- Which booth ?
- How far apart are they ?
- Which lot ?
I've tried this and have no issues.

- Which music style did you choose ?
Tried all three music styles.
- Which booth ?
The cheapest one. The one that can be put in the inventory.
- How far apart are they ?
I tried moving it different lengths away from each other and I even tried with the DJ booth on top of the dance floor.
- Which lot ?
I think the lot was Creek Cabana in willow Creek.
Additional information: The Sim was an alien and had level one dance skill.

There seems to be something wrong with the dance floor. It seems random when the dance floor works correctly and when it doesn't. Here is an example picture:
This is in the club venue in Windenburg:
There is no music playing so you can't dance on the dance floor (Note: This is before the DJ booth was used in the game). This is how it should always work in the game.
My Sim played music on the DJ booth but turned it off. Now the floor is showing the dance option even though no music is playing:
There is no music playing upstairs but you can dance on the dance floor:
I tried reproducing this issue. My sim needed to be aware of the music first, so I made her listen to it, then she would dance on the floor.
Here you have a video with the expensive booth:

And one with the cheapest booth:

I have to add, my Sim isn't an alien.- canelacaliente10 years agoSeasoned Ace
The Sim in the picture is not an alien. I tested with an alien and non alien and got the same results. The picture where the Sim has the option to dance, there was no music playing.

I'll do some further testing on the weekend.
I've seen Sims dance without music though.

I'm not sure what you mean by "I used the radio option," because I haven't played around with DJ booths, yet. What I'm experiencing is when a normal radio is used with a dance floor, the floor does not recognize that music is playing. My sim can still dance on the floor if I click the "Dance" option on the radio. However, the "Dance" option on the floor is always grayed out (because it says no music is playing.)

What happens if you listen to the radio first and then try to dance ?

It does seem wonky. I get the option to dance a lot although there's no music playing.

I never had this problem until recently; I think it came with the May 25th patch. Option to dance on dance floors is grayed out; I get the message "Music must be playing nearby to perform this interaction." Listening to music first doesn't make a difference, and it happens with different stereos and different dance floors.
Removed mods and CC, and reset Sims 4 folder - still occurs. If nobody else is having this issue I'll try repairing my game next.
