Same problem here, and I don't think it makes sense as a design change as some have suggested. Sims always gained logic from both chemical analyzer & chemistry lab interactions, and I think people are getting the two confused. The chemical analyzer has options to analyze crystals and metals (along with plants), and has a chance of obtaining new ones. The chemical LAB has never done that--it's purely about making serums. There are 1 or 2 serums that have crystals as ingredients, but all of them use plants, and most of them ONLY use plants. It would make more sense to build gardening or herbalism or something while using the lab, if you're going to do something different from logic, and maybe get some gemology when using the analyzer to look at crystals. But gaining that much gemology when experimenting on the chemistry LAB (as opposed to the analyzer), when it doesn't really have anything to do with crystals (unlike the analyzer, which at least kind of does)? That just doesn't make sense to me.
