Hey,
I had to install a mod to actually see the error message. With thanks to TwistedMexi for the Better Exceptions mod (together with the MCCC mod the only mods that I had installed the last time I tested this issue).
The first few times I tested this issue I had no mods installed. Both with feeding and trying to get the dolphin to fetch the dolphin would simply disappear. I would hear the squeaking of the dolphin, but the dolphin itself wasn't visible anymore. The system did recognize that apparently something needed to happen, because I couldn't call a dolphin because there was already a dolphin (game message).
Once I installed MCCC and Better Exceptions, I finally got a pop-up stating there was an error and more insight with the report:
Category ID: relationship_service.py:1201
Possible Cause (Confidence: 10%) | relationship_service |
Reason | Exception when applying action <StatisticAddObjectRelationship None ParticipantType.Actor> for loot loot_Dolphins_Rel_Gain_Feed(loot_actions=(<StatisticAddObjectRelationship None ParticipantType.Actor>, <StatisticAddObjectRelationship None ParticipantType.Actor>, <StatisticAddObjectRelationship None ParticipantType.Actor>, <StatisticAddObjectRelationship None ParticipantType.Actor>, <StatisticAddObjectRelationship None ParticipantType.Actor>, <StatisticAddObjectRelationship None ParticipantType.Actor>, <StatisticAddObjectRelationship None ParticipantType.Actor>, <StatisticAddObjectRelationship None ParticipantType.Actor>, <StatisticAddObjectRelationship None ParticipantType.Actor>, <StatisticAddObjectRelationship None ParticipantType.Actor>, <StatisticAddObjectRelationship None ParticipantType.Actor>, <StatisticAddObjectRelationship None ParticipantType.Actor>, <StatisticAddObjectRelationship None ParticipantType.Actor>, <StatisticAddObjectRelationship None ParticipantType.Actor>, <StatisticAddObjectRelationship None ParticipantType.Actor>, <StatisticAddObjectRelationship None ParticipantType.Actor>, <StatisticAddObjectRelationship None ParticipantType.Actor>, <StatisticAddObjectRelationship None ParticipantType.Actor>, <StatisticAddObjectRelationship None ParticipantType.Actor>, <StatisticAddObjectRelationship None ParticipantType.Actor>, <StatisticAddObjectRelationship None ParticipantType.Actor>, <BuffOp ParticipantType.Actor>, <BuffOp ParticipantType.Actor>, <PlayVisualEffectLootOp ParticipantType.Object>), run_test_first=False, tests=CompoundTestList([])) (TypeError: '<' not supported between instances of 'int' and 'object_Dolphin') |
I had experienced this issue before with a heavily modded installation, so at first I thought it was something with the mods. I just wanted to make sure it was one of the mods, so I decided to make a clean, vanilla, installation and ONLY install MCCC and Better Exceptions to get a full report if something were to happen.
So, it's a clean installation, with a new world, new sim and everything.
The sim is a "natural" mermaid from CAS, so no sim who turned into a mermaid with Kelp.
I also had this issue when I only had Get to Work, Island Living and the Holiday pack and I remember I also had a similar result with letting the dolpin fetch something. I wouldn't get anything in my inventory and the dolphin would simply disappear.
I don't know if it makes a difference but my Windows 11 laptop runs DX12, so the Sims has the -DX11 added, per the instructions from EA in the forums somewhere here (don't have the exact address at hand right now)
Just in case you need a save file: I currently have 6 save files of this vanilla game. Do you only need the last one or do you need all of them? I've barely played, it was simply for testing the dolphin interaction.

Just to add some new information:
I just saw it happening in videos from simmers on YouTube as well. Same result. The dolphins (both the grey and the azure) just left.
