Latest patch did not in fact fix gardening, just messed it up in a new way. Again. I'm not surprised the patch didn't actually fix the gardening, just disappointed. I've been waiting years for a fix, guess I'll have to wait longer. This happens on new and old saves. Edit: I can now confirm that the plants are also still randomly reverting to dirt piles. Neutral/Not Sure This has changed slightly since the new patch, but the main issue has been around for quite a while. It does not occur every Sim day, but it happens often enough to be considered "frequent." The larger the garden, the more likely the issue will occur.Improvements in this patch:Fewer plants reset at a time (used to be all or nearly all mature plants would reset at once, now it just seems to be a few at a time)Prior to the patch, reloading the lot would make the reset visible (plants turned into dirt piles). Now it actually seems to reset plants to their proper state instead.For these screenshots and description, I removed my mods and my localthumbcache file and started a new save with a fresh Sim. I started the save in the Spring and moved the Sim into one of the starter lots in Willow Creek and planted a bunch of plants from some starter packs, then on day 2 grabbed a bunch of wild plants from the neighborhood and planted those too. In this test save I was planting directly into the ground, but in my current (modded) play save, it is occurring in both vertical and ground planters as well. (I have not played with the CoL dirt patches in either save.)First morning after planting I encountered the issue, but reloaded the lot before I'd finished documenting it. Prior to this patch the lot reload would visibly revert the plants, but now it fixes the issue instead, so yay for that.Second morning after planting, this is my pre-harvest garden. Sorry it's so dark; it was early:After harvesting the carrots, parsley, and mushrooms had reset. I could tell they were reset because the pie menu was missing the "Research" option:My taro, bluebell, daisy, and strawberry plants were fine, and still had the Research option in the menu:I kept my Sim on the home lot the rest of the day. The next morning, here's the garden (the new mound is spinach. It's out of season, so it's ok that it's a dirt pile):The carrots, parsley, and mushrooms are missing their harvestables, but everything else is fine. They're still missing "Research" from the pie menu:After reloading the lot (went into CAS and back out), "Research" is available in the menu again, but still no harvestables:The fact that reloading the lot fixes the issue instead of just making it visually apparent really is a huge improvement, since previously fixing the plants required the "Set gardening state" cheat on each individual plant, but if your Sim is a real homebody and never goes anywhere, you still have to click on each one to see if it's reset, or just make a habit of loading CAS once a day. The only way the reset is obvious is if the plants are in a vertical planter: in that case, when the issue occurs, the plant suddenly appears like it would in the ground instead of how it normally looks in the vertical planter.

I’ve noticed my game having a similar issue, 14 day seasons, but my plants turning to dirt on the 8th day of the season. Especially weird because my plants were sheltered so ALL of them turned to dirt.I also notice them change to dirt when going into build mode, especially if I move the planters they’re in. Trees seem unaffected by changing to dirt when moving them, as well as plants placed on the ground, but moving the planters that a plant is in turns the plants to dirt I’d say 75% of the time.

I Am having this issue in most of my saves.What happens is that all of my plants are constantly reverting to dirt piles. I happens at 3 am, at 5 am, and at 7 am each sim day. Plus any time a plant's status changes, it reverts to dirt piles. By status changes I mean.... needs watering, been watered, has weeds, been weeded, has bugs, been sprayed, has harvestables, been harvested... and so on.I spend my entire game time having to keep shift clicking on plants to bring them back from dirt piles. It happens multiple times a sim day and since it happens when the 5am " plants grow harvestables," my sims never get any thing from their plants.It is affecting most of my saves. It happens in any save regardless of season, season length, great soil lot traits, or even type of plants. It is happening to ALL plants. It happens to them whether they are sheltered in a greenhouse or outdoors.It happens to all fruit trees, all vegetable plants, every flower plant, all the herbs, the money tree, and even the crystal tree. I play loads of various saves and it is happening in all of them. Off the grid families, jewelry makers, flower arrangers, farmers, juice / fizz makers, nectar making lots, and so on. I have no mods in my game. I have never used them. It happens in any save file including new ones.It happens on multiple pcs ( I have used my father's laptop and my mom's pc ).It is happening to many of my friends and family members in their games too. It got worse with the crystal creations patch. I play the sims to de-stress and to try to block out being in pain and having a fatal disease. Yet the whole time I am playing, I am constantly having to keep shift clicking on every dirt pile to bring the plants back to live. It happens multiple times per day to every plant. It is beyond frustrating. I have tried even planting new crops and deleting all the old ones. I have tried using planter boxes and green houses. I have tried growing things only outdoors. I have had to stop playing most of my saves. It takes hours each time I play to get through 1 sim day, because I am constantly having to babysit every plant. It is such a huge waste of time too. My sims get nothing from the plants because they revert to dirt at 5 am right when the fruit, veggies, flowers, and crystals are supposed to spawn. I have several 10 and more generational saves that I can't even play in anymore because of this. I am on windows 10 and have every expansion, stuff pack, game pack, and kit. It happens to everyone I know. It is even happening to several game changers during their streams. This bug has been going on for over a year. The more patches and packs added, the worse it gets. I am thinking about just quitting the game. I spend more time in the game trying to fix the plants and their dirt piles, that I can't even play. The game I love is no longer any fun.

@crinrict Hi! So I just noticed something. I have my seasons set to be 14 days long. In my game, I'm playing in Henford-on-Bagley and it's Fall. All my in-season Fall plants, all of a sudden, just reverted back to dirt piles. It's Day 8 (out of 14) of Fall. A few days ago, when I was playing the exact same lot/household, it was Summer and all my in-season Summer plants suddenly reverted to dirt piles - on the 8th (out of 14) day of Summer. So now I'm wondering if it could have something to do with playing with seasons that are longer than 7 days - since, at least for me, they seem to be resetting on the 8th day of the season.

Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? It's been a persistent problem for years, but the latest patch only slightly altered it, contrary to what the patch notes implied
According to the patch notes, plants would no longer revert to soil while in-season. This was like putting a bandaid on a broken leg. It's just the superficial part of a much larger problem. On a regular basis, the plants fail to produce what they're intended to grow and their interaction options reduce to a basic 4, losing things like "Research" and "Take Cutting". The only temporary fix is to use debug cheats to restore their Growth Stage. The patch notes implied it had been fixed, but it was only really covered up at best. It's long overdue for this to be fixed for real, once and for all.

I always like to play with gardening and when they said it was finally fixed in the 1.101.290/1.81 patch I was happy. But right now I am playing with only the base game + Outdoor Retreat and Get to Work installed and first it appeared that the plants were all ok, no bugs, but in the second in-game week I evolved some plants in the morning and at night while my sim was sleeping some of them reverted to dirt piles.
I planted: mushroom, parsley, basil, sage, daisy, bluebell, chrysanthemum, snapdragon, lily, carrot, spinach, banana, grape, strawberry and apple all in the same day in the beginning of the first week.
In the end of the first week I fertilized them all with lilies.
My sim travelled to Granite Falls in the beginning of the second week (sun-wed) and right after she came back I planted tomatoes and onions. Didn't fertilize them.
In the wednesday of the second week (after coming back from Granite Falls) all the plants but the basil and the spinach (and tomatoes and onions because I didnt fertilize) were ready to evolve and I evolved all of them.
Thursday around 3 when my sim were sleeping the following plants became dirt piles: basil, sage, daisy, bluebell and chrysanthemum.
I have the save file from the moment I noticed this.

To test gardening, I started a new game. Set the time of year - spring. I planted plants. I played for six days. On the morning of the sixth day, most of the plants were shed down to a pile of earth. The day before I fertilized the plants.
I have all the packages installed.
My Sim was in his home lot.
I've never used mods.
These are bluebell, chamomile, sage, taro, peas, basil, apple tree, chrysanthemum and bell pepper.
I haven't noticed any other problems with gardening.

I played one more day. My Sim stayed at home. Plants are growing. I will continue to monitor and stay at home. In two days summer will begin.
upd: Continuation of the same day. While I was harvesting, the chrysanthemum became a pile of earth.
