[OPEN] Teens lose aspiration when aging up

Product: The Sims 4
Platform:PC
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
What is your current game version number? 1.90.358.1030
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? All, except BTD is disabled
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? A teen ages up in game.
What happens when the bug occurs? The teen loses their aspiration
What do you expect to see? The sim keeps their aspiration (unless you have the not-out-yet high school pack and have a teen aspiration)
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Not now. I've removed them.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Yes
Please describe the patch or change you made. The patch on July 26 2022

I was testing the aging up after CAS bug. When I switched to long life and reloaded the lot, my three test teen sims had time added to her age, and one of them aged up. When she did, I had to pick a new aspiration. I took them into CAS, and the other 2 aged up, and I had to pick new aspirations for them too.

I don't know if this is related to lifespan or related to the new/returned aging up bug. I also don't know if it would happen from aging with a birthday cake.

Edit: I tested in another new, mod-free save. It happens to every teen aged up in game either aging on their own or from a birthday cake, on long or normal life span. It doesn't happen if you use fulleditmode and age them up in CAS. It does not happen to young adults who age up to adults.

Was it one of the new aspirations with the high school pack, because those are teen only

  • Part of me thinks that the bug is caused due to traits being added from the switch from teen to young adult and was and accidental misstep in a specific update of 1 of the two, ea is relatively quick to spot these things but if it persists I would suggest attempting to email ea support as they almost always check those tickets

Yeah, I noticed this, too, and I just roll my eyes and set the aspiration back to what it was.  :P

    (I don't have HSY either.)

  • Unfortunately this one is not a bug, though I will admit that this new feature is riddled with bugs.

With the addition of the teen only aspirations it appears that EA has added a new feature where once a teen ages up they will have to select a new aspiration since they won't be able to continue with a possible teen only one. I agree that doing it this way is probably not the best way to do it. What they should have done instead was flag the teen only aspirations as exactly that, teen only. Then once a teen ages up to young adult the game would remove the teen only aspiration which would then force you to have to select a new aspiration. The other fix is to simply make it so teens can only have the new teen aspirations and then moving on to an adult one once they age up. The reason EA/Maxis wrote their scripts the way they did was most likely due to laziness, though it could be a lack of understanding. The way that I suggest the system to run requires a slightly more advanced set of scripts. This means either a greater understanding of the language or simply more time to execute the system properly. Either way it was decided that this could not be done, thus the reason we see such an odd system for this. Along with this I have run into a large number of adult townies who still have the teen aspirations, so it is very, very clear that this set to scripts needs a re-vamp ASAP as there is no way EA/Maxis can say this is working as intended.

Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
What is your current game version number? 1.91.186.1030
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? All except MWS, Batu and a few kits
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Have a teen sim you're playing with, already have an aspiration selected (it's best to not have a teen only aspiration selected so you can see the bug). Have your teen sim age up to YA.
What happens when the bug occurs? The teens aspiration upon aging resets and it has to be selected again. I had a teen sim who has the spellcaster aspiration, she aged up and I had to reselect her aspiration. The same thing happened with my previous teen, I had to reselect her aspiration as well and she had the best selling author aspiration.
What do you expect to see? As long as an aspiration that is for any age sim is selected, I do should not see this reset. My sim did not lose progress, but I shouldn't have to reselect her aspiration.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Not now. I've removed them.

Please describe the patch or change you made. Any patch associated with the release of HSY. This bug occurs with or without mods/cc installed.

The teens aspiration upon aging resets and it has to be selected again. I had a teen sim who has the spellcaster aspiration, she aged up and I had to reselect her aspiration. The same thing happened with my previous teen, I had to reselect her aspiration as well and she had the best selling author aspiration.  As long as an aspiration that is for any age sim is selected, I should not see this reset. My sim did not lose progress, but I shouldn't have to reselect her aspiration. I don't know if this is intentional for all teens because of the teen specific aspirations, but if you're not using them then they initial aspiration should remain the same.

  • I just wanted to add that specifically with the werewolf aspiration, progress DOES reset. I was playing as Jacob Volkov, who was already past the first stage of the aspiration and had chosen the moonwood collective branch, but when he aged up the whole thing reset and he's now back at the beginning and needs to "experience the full moon" again. Usually, while you have to reselect, progress isn't lost, but it seems that with the werewolf one at least, because of the branching nature of of it maybe, you have to start from scratch. I have to say it's a bit weird that they made a pre-made townie where this would inevitably happen if you played with them, and didn't fix the problem lol.
