[OPEN] Toddlers call caregiver to put them down from a regular seat

Product: The Sims 4
Platform:PC
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
What is your current game version number? n/a
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? Get to Work, City Living, Get Together, Cats and Dogs, Seasons, Outdoor Retreat, Spa day, Dine Out, Vampires, Parenthood, Jungle Adventure, Kids Room Stuff, Bowling Night Stuff, Toddler Stuff, Laundry Day Stuff, My First Pet Stuff.
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Step 1: Use a toddler with MAX movement skill and a caregiver. Step 2: Place a dollhouse and a seat in different floors with medium height walls. Step 3: Have a toddler sit on any seat (sofa, dining chair, etc.) that isn't a high chair and the caregiver in a different room. Step 4: Direct the toddler to go play on the dollhouse alone (not "play with") while the caregiver is in another room.
What happens when the bug occurs? Despite being able to go upstairs themselves, the toddler will call the caregiver over from the other room/another floor just to pick the toddler up and put him/her down even though the toddler have already gotten off the seat. Toddlers will NEVER call the caregiver to put them down when they are in the same room.
What do you expect to see? I expect toddlers to get off the regular seat themselves to play without calling their caregiver. It would at least be less annoying if the caregiver picks them up and put them in front of the dollhouse.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Not now. I've removed them.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? No

Max movement toddlers keep calling their caregivers from another room/floor while they are sitting to put them down from all kinds of seats in order to go play, despite being able to get off themselves. This forces the caregiver to drop what they're doing and go to the toddler. The most annoying thing about this is the toddler always have already gotten off themselves and could go play without aid.

  • The problem does not occur when the toddler and caregiver are in the same room.
  • Problem occurs in homes with medium height walls.
  • Problem occurs regardless of toddler traits.

@khitteh: Me too. This is a really annoying one.

Surely this should be easy - remove toddler request to be "put down" from all chairs.

No reason for toddlers to ask to be "put down" from regular chairs.

And dumbest thing is, toddlers get down themselves anyway yet parents trudge all the way over to the toddler who is now standing in front of the regular chair just to pick them up so they can get their "put down" action...for no reason at all.

@khitteh and @83bienchen  I tried something in my game that has helped with this issue (at least so far).

I've been battling this nonsense for ages also. I submitted a bug report about it back in December but got nowhere with it. At one point, I had 9 toddlers in my household, and this "put down" idiocy made me want to drop kick my PC and rage quit forever.

My household has a toddler again, and as soon as the kid aged up to a toddler, the "put down" mess began, and I seriously contemplated moving every single seating surface in the house to the household inventory until the kid grew up, just to stop this madness because I simply cannot take it anymore.

BUT...then I found something that actually helped a good bit, at least in my game (so far). I don't know if you've tried this yet, but just in case you haven't....

If you play with MCCC installed, use MCCC Tuner to activate Autonomy Scan on the toddler and close the MCCC menu. Then, click on the toddler again and select Autonomy Scan from the pie menu. There are two instances of "Pick Up" in the list of available autonomous actions. Disable them both and see if that helps.

I did that in my game, and in three sim days, the "Put Down" action has only popped into an adult's queue once, and it was at a point when the toddler's energy need had dropped into the yellow and his mother came to take him off the couch at bedtime...which is perfectly understandable. That makes sense.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. So many needless problems with this game could be eliminated if the autonomy system hadn't been designed completely backwards.

As it stands now, autonomy (including NPC and pet autonomy) seems to take priority over player directed actions, and I will never understand why that design decision was made, because it's a game breaker and, in many circumstances, eliminates the player's ability to actually play or influence anything that happens in the game at all.

Perfect example, when my household's current baby was born, I ended up having to completely disable autonomy for all sims just to make it possible for the baby to be fed.

The child nearly got taken away because my attempts to tell the father to feed it kept getting canceled from his queue so that everyone else in the house could autonomously talk to and coo at the baby while it starved. Other sims' autonomous actions literally prevented the father from feeding the child because everything I told him to do got canceled. That's...well, I have many words for what that is, but I'll keep them to myself for now.

Let it suffice to say it's the complete opposite of how it should work. Autonomy (especially NPC/pet autonomy) should never cancel out player input...but it does, unfortunately for us.

Anyway, I'll step off my soapbox now.  🙂

If you use MCCC and haven't tried deactivating the "Pick Up" autonomous actions on toddlers, give that a shot and see if it helps. It did in my game. Granted, I've only played through 3 sim days with autonomous "Pick Up" deactivated, but so far, so good.

Oh, and side note, but THANK YOU, Bienchen, for your excellent work. So much of my sanity has been preserved over the years because of you and your wonderful mods. You are appreciated. Don't ever doubt that! ❤️

  • Same here. It's annoying when they got off themselves just to be picked up and put down again.

  • This is the most annoying thing ever! Equally annoying is their need to be placed in the high chair to ask parents for food if they’re near it. It’s soo silly and wastes time, when sims already move extremely slowly

As crinrict asked for feedback, In my testing the toddler will call a cargiver to get them down at level 5 movement when on a sofa to go play dolls in a seprate room

This also happens on toddler beds, Needs to be fixed, id rather parents unable to do this interaction at all rather then this, or make this unable to be done autonoumously like woohoo is

Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Play with toddlers.
What happens when the bug occurs? Random household member picks up a toddler and just puts it down when the toddler was just put there by player commands.
What do you expect to see? I dont expect random sims to pick up a toddler while its being controlled by the player and then put it down and walk away for absolutely no good reason.

Since the baby update I havent had new offspring in my game. So I decided to have one to see what the baby update is about. Its still terrible to play with toddlers. Whenever I heavily interact with the infant/toddler other sims interfere with random interactions countering my commands.

Just a few moments ago I finally got the mother sim to put the toddler into the high chair. The option to put the toddler into the high chair doesnt work at all. The sim picks up the toddler and just stands there until I cancel the command. But the option to put the toddler there to give it food works. So after two sim days of the toddler eating from the ground I got it into the high chair and just when I was selecting food the father sim comes along, picks up the toddler and puts it down on the ground and walks away. Then I finally got the toddler back into the high chair, I had to move the applesauce or it wouldnt let me put it in, sit it down, move the applesauce back, force the mother to sit on the other side of the table, tell the toddler to eat the applesauce... and the toddler wants to be let out by the mother to eat on the ground!!! Meanwhile the toddler is near starvation during this chaos.

I cant find the right words for this. This has been an issue for years and its still not fixed. And thats not all.

When I instruct a sim to interact with the toddler to teach it to crawl or something, half the time a random household member comes and picks up the toddler. And then stands there doing nothing.

I still dont get the point of tummy time because every time the baby is crying and nothing is achieved. It makes no sense.

Half the time when the mother puts the baby into the very empty baby bed, hands it a kiss... on the neck... and then picks it up again. Just to stand there...

On another occasion the sleep deprived toddler went to bed, after a few minutes the father comes along... to tuck it it... while its already sleeping...

Help explore new food? Forget it ! It worked the first few times. But now my sim, with the baby in arm, just stands there and wont put her into the baby seat. Neither put down nor help explore foods works. The sim is just unresponsive. But when I cancel it suddenly he gets his free will back. Walking around? No problem. Suddenly the sim can put the baby into the seat without a fuss.

Cant I cry in my bed in peace? Forget it ! Household of two adults, two teens and the baby. Baby cries and two adults and two teens drop everything and run to the crying baby... and do nothing about it. They just stand there. Staring...

Breast feeding? Why is the mother suddenly mostly naked? Shes wearing a hat, bikini, gloves, long socks and shoes. All gone. How does that even make sense??

Only by accident I learned how to teach infants how to walk. Only to learn infants cant actually walk. Pulling up at a sofa is the highest form of movement they can learn. Because tree. When I aged it up to toddler walking was just there.

Is there nobody quality checking this stuff? This isnt playable. This is a bugged mess!

Still having really annoying issues with toddlers calling for a parent to pick them up to put them on chairs/seats/sofas that the toddler should be able to do without help.  They use some seats on their own but for others they call their parent to pick them up to put them on/off the seat.  Really needs a fix.
