Rain at GeekCon causes computers to be broken.

Product: The Sims 4
Platform:PC
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Often (50% - 99%)
What is your current game version number? 1.77.146.1030
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? Sims 4 Deluxe, Eco Lifestyle, Life of the Party, Realm of Magic, Up All Night, City Living, Outdoor retreat, Paranormal Stuff Pack, Romantic Garden Stuff, Seasons, Spooky Stuff, Strangerville, Vampires, Vintage Glamour Stuff
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Go to a GeekCon, if it's raining none of the electronics/computers/games work. The problem persists with certain items even if it stops raining.
What happens when the bug occurs? I can't use the computers or gaming consoles. Even after the rain stops most things are unusable. Some things are repairable but then I end up spending the entire festival repairing electronics. The computers are not repairable or able to be interacted with at all.
What do you expect to see? For it to either not be raining or for the electronics to be under a canopy or something else to protect them from the rain.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Never used.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? No

It wasn't raining when I left my house but it was storming hard when I went to GeekCon (different worlds = different weather so that's no big deal). After a few minutes the storm cleared away but I am not able to use any of the necessary items to complete the festival.

After the rain cleared, the game pads and the rocket seem to be working as expected, however, the game consoles/big tv, and the computers are all damaged and unable to be used.

The festival music is still being played over the speakers, which have not been damaged by the rain.

Items that are repairable include the game consoles and the big tv but then I end up spending the entire festival repairing electronics. The computers are not repairable and the upgrade option is grayed out because they are broken. All the broken items are giving my Sims a Bad Surroundings mood.

In my experience, this is normal behavior for the game, even though it's undesired. My best recommendation is to use options to turn off rain and snow before going to GeekCon. You can turn them back on after GeekCon is finished. Second choice is to use the Weather Machine, which you can get from Buy mode. It doesn't cost you anything to add it to a community lot. Look under Outdoor Activities. You'll probably have to repair a computer once the rain stops if you use the Weather Machine. I've never had any trouble repairing the computers at GeekCon and it's actually an advantage if there's only working computer since it prevents anyone else from entering the Hackathon while you are using that computer.

@crinrict No, the computers at GeekCon are not unbreakable.

  • @Sketch793 Or the devs could just put canopies over the electronic items, no-brainer there. I'm glad I've uninstalled Seasons, because it rained SO MUCH for me that I couldn't attend a successful GeekCon for weeks.
  • Hi! This is the first time I've left a reply on one of these threads, but I may have a fix! I had the same problem, but I went into build mode and bought a computer and then just.. put it on a table in the karaoke bar. I guess it was close enough because when I practised programming it completed the event.. bar.. thing. Idk but you could try that? 🙂
