Random Bouts of Lagginess in my game?

Product: The Sims 4
Platform:PC
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Often (50% - 99%)
What is your current game version number? 1.106.148.1030
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? Horse Ranch, Growing Together, Cottage Living, Snowy Escape, Eco Lifestyle, Discover University, Island Living, Get Famous, Seasons, Cats and Dogs, City Living, Get Together, Get To Work, Werewolves, Realm of Magic, Parenthood, Vampires, Outdoor Retreat, Paranormal Stuff, My First Pet Stuff, Backyard Stuff, Romantic Garden Stuff, Movie Hangout Stuff, Cool Kitchen Stuff, Luxury Party Stuff
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Play the game.
What happens when the bug occurs? Game will get a random bout of lagginess as I'm playing, which will come and go. The only way I can momentarily make it disappear is if I open and close the options menu. It will disappear for 5 seconds or so before returning to the laggy state, then will come and go as it pleases with no particular trigger. I have an ASUS TUF A16 with perfect stats to support all packs and smooth gameplay.
What do you expect to see? For this to no longer occur
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Not now. I've removed them.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Neutral/Not Sure

None to share.

  • @knevew Hello, have you tried the simulation lag fix mod? I found it helps with mods etc. Also if you can - check your graphical settings in game and check if the resolution and all of the specifications match to your pc settings.
  • The game does have some issues with random lag, which people have noticed may go away if they escape out to the options menu. I'm hoping that it improves after the next patch which they recently announced would include performance optimisations.

But also you mentioned playing on an laptop, and while it might have the stats to support smooth gameplay, you might also want to check that the laptop has enough cooling while you're playing - it's possible if your laptop is overheating that it's throttling down performance to manage temperature. I experienced this recently on my desktop PC when the fans failed on my GPU and I didn't realise until the game frame rate slowed down so much it made me check.
