Re: [ARCHIVED] Autonomy and Simulation Lag

Any time my sim sleeps or goes to work ultra speed does not work forcing me to sit through speed 2. It either looks like it goes forward and when I press play it goes back to the original time or it freezes on a certain time. Example:time stays at 8:00 but the minutes move until I press play. This happens in houses or apartments. Please help me this bug has made playing not enjoyable and I really want to play with seasons.

Thank you for the reply, yes two cats but I went back to an old save with no pets and the same thing happened. I've deleted all my CC to try to fix this and nothing happened.

Try resetting your user files as described in the factory reset described in this post: http://answers.ea.com/t5/The-Sims-4/FAQ-Troubleshooting-Steps-amp-Known-Issues/m-p/3621199

You won't loose anything. Just make sure to not delete any files  and make a backup.

After renaming, repair your game by right clicking on the game in Origin.

Try on a new game with nothing added back first (start new game). If it works, put back your save game and try again. If it still works, you can start putting stuff back.

    • Options.ini (or just re-set all your settings manually)
    • Tray Folder
    • Screenshots/Videos/Custom music
    • Rest of the save games (leave out slot_00000001.save which is the autosave and no longer needed - if you still have it)
    • Custom content like clothing, hair, skins, make up ....
    • Mods (one by one, making sure they all still work)

The rest does not need putting back, cause they are mostly cache files that recreate or log files that are not needed for the game.

I've tried everything that was suggested in that link and more and nothing has changed or helped. Thank you for trying, I guess this is just the end of my Sims 4 playing.

Did you try a completely new save as well ?

    (not giving up so easily)

I really appreciate that but yes I did. I tried a new save on my game now and when I deleted it all together and started fresh. My last resort is saving everything to an external drive and resetting my computer back to factory settings and hoping for the best. 🤞

    Hi @pronouncederinn

could you maybe post a video of what you're seeing ?

If you haven't already started with resetting your computer, you can also try creating a new windows user first and try if it works there.

So I reset my computer and it didn't work, I don't know why I thought it would. Here's two videos of whats happening(if they work). It's so frustrating.

Looks like the time jumps are getting worse again.

I've merged your post with current bug report on it.

    Thanks for the video.

  • When i play the same thing happens to me constantly. i have uninstalled, reinstalled and still happening. i have tried repairing the game and also cleaning up the cache. its making the game really unenjoyable. how many times does this bug have to be reported? and still no fix.

    disappointing.

day 3 of having these issues. nothing has changed, still unplayable. I saw origin download something for the game I figured it might have been a patch but guess not idk what it was, but it didn't change a thing. this is ridiculous..☹️

  • I've seen that the bug reports don't have this bug in it yet so Imma go out and say it, the game not only make sims bob their heads, and skips time backwards, but sometimes the game goes up and freezes for a few seconds to where the game isn't responding and could crash if you click on anything. and then it goes playable again. but yeah this is why there is a mod that fixes simulation lag, but it hasn't been updated yet, but the mod is really good for those experiencing sim lag.

here's the mod: Simulation Lag Fix updated

<edit (crin): removed link, please don't link any mods at AHQ, just name them. Also be aware that this mod has yet to be updated>

While the initial post is about general lagginess of which I don't know the source, the problem of time getting jumpy and non-linear which people mentioned and which is highly connected to the lags, can be reproduced pretty easily with a mod / code change @ developers:

All you need to do is put additional, computationally heavy python 3 activity (e.g. a busy loop with a high duration - not a total hang of course) into the zone.Zone.update() function, so pretty much making the python 3 artificially super laggy. Having a slower computer, or respectively busier code in there helps.

As a result, you'll instantly observe the following:

    1. Time continues running but Sims stand around for sometimes ten, fifteen ingame minutes like idiots

    2. When changing game speed back from fast to slow, time as shown on the UI clock will often jump backwards

    3. During loading screens, you'll hear whim sounds, other sounds for notifications going on and more, because time starts running during the loading screen but with a slow zone.Zone.update() call, it will significantly delay loading and it appears a huge amount of time can pass during the loading screen in some cases (this seems to have gotten less bad with recent patches as far as I can tell)

This seems to be a general, very underlying issue about how time is handled. I suppose the code that tries to cover up python 3 lags (by continuing to advance time & animations and such to pretend it's not as stuck as it is) is faulty / too aggressive and results in time being so seemingly non-linear and jumpy when you push it with bad lagginess. It would be preferable to show some bad hangs more openly to the player, and make the clock jump around less weirdly.

  • This thread is helpful. My sims literally have the take forever to do a command glitch and then stand around a while before doing it. It was a thing a while ago but it's back with island living.

I'm going to lock this thread as it's to unspecific and lags have many causes.

These issues aren't solved by any means

    Please create new threads.
