Re: [ARCHIVED] Cannot edit pre-existing sims (Family relationships)

@Bucksiii No, you need to delete the family you currently have already placed from the save. Then go to map and not choose any family to play

Click on the icon in the lower right corner that says create new household in cas. Load your gallery and replace the household with the one you uploaded. Now you can change the relationships and then put this family in the game instead of the one you can't edit.

This way you don't have to start from scratch

EDIT: I would make the new one first, then remove the other in case something goes wrong

  • @crinrictThank you so so much!

That fixed the problem completely. Thank you very much for your time and your help, I wasn't aware you could do it like that and couldn't find any guides on it.
    I really appreciate it! 🥳

@Bucksiii It's only really an option for Sims you haven't already played .. which for you .. luckily they were unless you want to loose relationship progress with them.

    :D

    Enjoy your new family

  • Product: The Sims 4
    Platform:PC
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
What is your current game version number? 1.98.158.1020
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? Seasons EP, Cats & Dogs EP, Cottage Living EP, Get To Work EP, Desert Luxe Kit, Holiday Kit
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? 1. Add an Adult Father of an existing Young Adult Sim by genetics. 2. Transferred the Father to another Household. 3. Add an Adult Mother of the same existing Sim by genetics.
What happens when the bug occurs? After I create the Mother Sim, I cannot set her as the Mother of the existing Sim under the Edit Relationships tab. The only options are either Household Member or Fiancee.
What do you expect to see? I expect the "Mother" option visible and selectable in the Edit Relationships tab; I was able to do it when I created the existing Sim's Father.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Yes
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Neutral/Not Sure

Things I have tried but did not resolve the issue:

    1. Repairing the game

    2. Uninstall/disable MCCC (the only cc/mod I use)

@arikitsuragi   Hi!  Please go into Live mode with the sim for whom you're trying to create a mother.  Click on the Simology panel and check that sim's Genealogy.  Does the sim have an icon set for Mother (it might just be a blank generic photo)?  If so, then basically the game generated a "mother" for your sim and you will not be able to create a mother for them..  The workaround would be to save the household to your library, then delete them from your game and add them again from Library using the Create New Household button from the Worlds / Map view.  Once you are in CAS again, you should be able to change the relationships.  For more information, you can check the "workaround" post at the link below.

  • Thanks for the reply! I have attached the screenshot - as you can see, Ari only has one parent branch- the Father that I have created using Genetics.

Before I try your workaround, may I ask if this will reset my Sims' progress e.g. Career, Aspirations, Collections? =( If so, I would rather not do such a disruptive workaround =(

@arikitsuragi   Oh!  Thanks for sharing that image.  Perhaps you are not having the same issue.  Would you mind sharing the household to the Gallery?  I'd like to see if I get the same issue in my game.

As for losing progress, the only thing you would lose are relationships outside the household and the contents in the inventory.  What you might try is putting all your inventory into the house so that it's all there when you get back into the game.  Then you would need to reestablish relationships with other sims.   The household will keep all other progress; career, skills, money, aspiration, etc.  Just make sure you save the family in your Library from your current game before doing anything else.

  • I have uploaded the household to the Gallery. My username is luneellise21 and the household name is CAN'T HAVE A MOTHER (sorry I do not mean to be cheeky, just describing the problem!) Thanks so much! I will try that workaround soon, in the meantime!

@arikitsuragi    lol  It may be a little cheeky BUT, it helped me to find the household.   :-)

When I added the household, I found the same problem you were having.  Once they were in the game, I didn't have the option to add a mother for Ari.  This does not match the other bug exactly.  However, there may be some hidden thing that was added to make the game think that Ari already had a mother.  I don't know what would cause that.

Anyway, I deleted the household from the game and clicked the Create New Household button.  Once I was back in CAS, I was able to add the mother.  You can see her in the genealogy below.   One thing to note, they did not keep their money after adding Mom.  :-(   I had to use the FreeRealEstate On cheat to get them into a more expensive lot.  Then I used the money cheat to get their money back; Money 328742 to be precise for this example.  They did have skills, aspiration and career progression; except for Mom since she's new.

Edit:  I forgot to mention that they kept the reward traits as well.   Also ... this is a lovely family! <3

  • I forgot to say thank you for your help. I just realised I never thanked you!

@arikitsuragi   I'm not sure but just in case that reply was meant for me?   You're welcome!  Hopefully all is well with you and your game.  :-)
