Re: [ARCHIVED] Sim uses a different computer to the one they are told to use

I had this issue too, but I haven't seen it happen in my current save (but got a new computer and thus a fresh install somewhere in the meantime).

It may still happen in the save it used to happen in, but I haven't played that one in a while (stuck refurbishing the Science lab - which I need to get done but haven't really felt like doing).

Anyway, what I wanted to say is (since no one really mentioned it yet), there is a simple work around for this issue (which has always worked, even before the ability to lock doors). You simply queue the action to sit on the chair that's 'attached' to the desk with the computer you want to use. Once the Sim sits down there click the computer and select the desired action, your Sim will do so on the computer you selected. I think you can also select the interaction with the computer while your Sim is on their way to the chair, but can't be entirely sure.

Hope this helps 🙂

This issue is still present as of the Dec 17 patch. The above mentioned workaround seems to work reliably as long as you wait for the Sim to sit down before clicking on the computer.

I'm on Mac OS X (Yosemite), all expansions and packs, no mods or CC.

Just my own observations on this: I see this if another Sim has already locked to use the particular computer I'm sending my Sim to.

So basically: I send one Sim to use a computer but another Sim has already autonomously decided to use the same one. So, even though the Sim is not there yet, it's already occupied.

Is this different to what everyone else is seeing ?

Actually, I haven't had this happen in a while, but I usually lock doors to rooms with computers in them, so what you say may actually be true. I don't play as much as I used to, or just houses with only one computer. From my most recent experience with a house with multiple computers, as far as I can remember, they've always used the one I told them to use.

On the other hand, the save I remember this happening in, it was a single Sim household and it also happened when there weren't any visitors. However, that all happened over a year ago, so I'm not sure how relevant it is.

  • I had the opposite problem. I directed two sims to the same room, but to different computers at desks facing each other. The sim whose action queued first went to the wrong computer, so when the second sim arrived (headed to the correct computer), his seat was taken and he couldn't do what I told him to do. I then directed the first sim to the other computer 3 times and she just kept going back to the same wrong one. As previously mentioned, telling her to sit in the chair at the right desk before telling her to use the computer finally got her in the right spot. While that works, it's obnoxious to have to do.

Currently running Base, Get to Work, and City Living with no mods.
