@Dreamspinner3 AFAIR you need to vote for it to change to another type. You can't change the type that's active in build mode.

Vote on the community board for the type you want then get NPCs to vote for that as well. Your Sim needs to be living in the neighborhood the community space is in otherwise they won't be allowed to vote.

    How can that be when I built the lot brand new from scratch?  I set it up as a marketplace, but it reverts to a community lot as soon as I exit the lot, even in build mode.

    @Dreamspinner3 Cause that's the standard it's currently on. Did you try voting ? You might be able to cheat changing it by entering testingcheats and then shift-click on the community board but I think you still need to play a family that lives there.

    This tells you which of the choices is currently active

    So even if you edit the community garden/Marketplace/Maker Space, the community space is still active.

    On the board you can change the active space project to whatever you want by voting

    Or you can cheat and enact it that way

    After that it will change to your edit space.
