Re: [FIXED] Autonomous Insulting (Patch 1.92.145)

@valohim666 I play on console, too, for similar reasons, actually, so I'm right there with you. The lack of customization compared to what PC/Mac players have kinda chafes. I get that this is as much to do with the console software companies than EA and Maxis, but it's definitely frustrating and highlights exactly why they need to build some of those options right into the base game.

And you hit the nail on the head there. Players shouldn't be shoehorned into a specific style of gameplay. If someone as a player wants to play it "way it was meant to be played," then they can change nothing and have at it. The rest of us shouldn't be forced to do the same when, like you said, this is a game where some of us want to experience that elusive ability to control our reality. Either way, it should be our choice.

I realize this has digressed a but from the topic of this thread, but the fact is, this insulting bug speaks to a much larger issue within the game, and it presents a perfect opportunity for the devs to address that, so...it kinda feels justified in this case.

@Moozilla13 I want to say that it's nice we see where the other is coming from, though in this case I'm not sure it's such a nice thing lol. Whenever I look at the system Bethesda has in place for mods it makes me wonder why Sims 4 can't do something like that, but yeah it's not just on EA. One other problem with mods on consoles would be that PlayStation users would have more limitations than on Xbox since Sony doesn't allow external assets to be added when it comes to mods. So if they ever do allow mods on consoles, I hope you play on Xbox otherwise you would have to deal with the EA and Sony restrictions.

Good thing it's not a literal nail, or I would have missed and hit my hand. But yeah I'm the type of player that likes to stray from the normal path that some may consider the "right way", and that's why I love these Sims games because when they actually work properly they give players a good way to go their own way. There is no set path to take, there's nothing saying "you must do this", and sure the game does have limitations but it's more open to creativity than most. In my younger days I liked linear games without varying paths or multiple ways to play, but now I struggle so much with enjoying things that I really need these types of games that can not only hold my interest but also allow me to dive deeper into them. I simply don't want to play games that only have a right way to play.

I feel this game has had a problem for years now, but unfortunately it just seems to get worse. I've seen this for so long that I got to a point where I stopped updating my PC game, and it hasn't been updated since I believe 2019 so that should give you an idea of how long I've felt things were off. Plus even if we are off topic, there are so many people that have posted already that EA has at least acknowledged the problem. I'm not sure they read the comments anyway, so most people should probably just hit that "me too" button and not waste time commenting. Obviously that's no offense to anyone posting, but at this point I feel like most people are just repeating the same things anyway.

By the way your user name reminds me of a mod creator that I used to see all the time on Mod The Sims named Mootilda.

@valohim666 I actually do play on xbox, and that's one of the reasons 😂 And Bathesda will go down as one of my all-time favorites game software developers, bugs and all.

A game like this should be the perfect companion for evolving playstyles, so when it drops the ball like this, it feels like such a wasted opportunity and I think personally that's where my frustration comes from and why I've found myself so invested in this particular bug (seeing as I've got several rn). This game is a wonderful departure from most of the games I play and really helps me decompress -- when it's working properly. The fixes they need to patch through here for this bug could incorporate so many things to improve longstanding issues, and it would be great if they, y'know, tackled that before abandoning the game completely (which I'm sure is only a matter of time).

Very true, if they read anything more than a few initial bug reports, I doubt they're still following the thread now. Seems like at this point, it's solely become an outlet for players to vent, and at least get a sense of solidarity and support from the fact that so many are in this sinking boat together.

I'd DL their mods on principle :P

@valohim666, I feel your frustrations, but wherever did you get the idea that Playstation doesn't allow external mods? My husband has modded for many years in Bethesda games and has ALWAYS played them on PS and PC. He has Skyrim on PS3 and 4 and both are modded! So no sure where you got your info from, but mods have always played a factor in hubby's games 😉 I do agree that EA needs to get off their high horse and do their job instead of relying on modders!

  • @tntterry No I didn't say external mods, I said external assets. Meaning that mods are allowed, it's just that when creating mods you aren't allowed to add in anything that isn't already in the game. For example if I created a new town for Xbox or PC I could add in entirely new textures and meshes and whatnot, while on PlayStation I'd have to piece something together from existing game assets. So yeah mods are possible on PlayStation, they're just more limited. Hopefully that makes sense, I can be terrible at explaining things lol.

@Moozilla13 I love those Bethesda games as well, even if they get annoying at times. Some bugs are funny, like seeing a horse flying around, others just irritate me like not being able to start or finish a quest. I even finished Oblivion again recently. After doing a no leveling run in Skyrim, I decided to do the same in Oblivion.

Yeah I get that too. I try to play multiple games, hell I even tried getting back into GTA Online recently just to get away from the Sims glitches, but like you said the departure from other games is just significant because of the type of game it is. There just aren't many of these life simulator games out there, none quite like the Sims anyway. When working properly, it's the perfect game for anyone trying to get away from real life and create a virtual one that's more to their liking.

Since this game is one of my key games I use to escape, seeing it in such a broken state really does make it even more frustrating because for me and others that use it as an escape it can just add to the things we're trying to escape from. For example several people have commented on how hard it is to make and keep friends now because of this bug, in real life making friends is something I struggle badly with due to things like anxiety and whatnot so that just drags me back down when the game should be my escape. It's like my real life bug is the anxiety, and like this mean bug in the Sims it won't go away.

Unfortunately I see this game going the Sims 3 route, and will probably be left broken by the time EA is done. I guess one good thing about EA potentially giving up on it is that PC players will at least have a chance to fix it for good using mods, us console players.... yeah it's gonna be a mess.

@valohim666 ahhh sorry I misunderstood you at first, but yeah it is frustrating with limitations, but better than no mods at all for sure 😉 AS for the sims, I am seriously contemplating going back to sims 2 honestly. I think we had way more freedom to create back then, as well as the unbelievable amount of custom content and mods, hell they are still creating it all on MTS and TSR, as well as pinterest, tumbler, etc.... It is the only game I am able to create cc for as well, never felt the need for it in 3 being that I own the entire sims 3 store as well as all ep's, gp's. sp's for 1,2 & 3, and now kits too for 4 besides. So when I think of the literal thousands of $$$$ spent on this series, it makes me sick to see the way EA/Maxis treats us all! But with sims 4 I literally have zero interest to learn to create cc, especially moreso now. When I think back to the days with Will Wright, it truly makes me sick to death as to what Maxis/EA has done to his baby, and they did the same to Spore sadly. My hubby, myself and several other's were lucky enough to be chosen for Will's Bar Karma project and we enjoyed working with him (online of course), but we are all blessed to have been in the inner circle of ideas and creation of the show and in the shows credits. He is truly an amazing man full of creativity and intelligence. I am also thankful for the sims 2 community fan sites, not just the game. It is there that I gained most of my friends and my husband (and yes we are lucky to have met over 20 of these long time friends in person). We do have somewhat of a community today, mostly on FB though, so it isn't the same as it was on The creator's forum at sterlingsims, and another site Simooligan started back then. Gosh I miss those days 😉

  • @tntterry It's cool, I probably didn't explain it very well the first time lol. And yes some are better than none, and there are some decent mods for those Bethesda games on PlayStation.

I would go back to Sims 2 if my computer actually ran it well, unfortunately my computer doesn't like Sims 2 and also likes to BSOD now while playing games so if I want to play a Sims game at all I'm stuck playing Sims 4 on Xbox. As someone that used to be a regular on MTS, that site seemed to mostly be people that played Sims 2 so to learn that there are still new creations is no surprise. Plus there are just far better tools for Sims 2. I mean SimPE.... come on that program is god like lol.

I'd get into my thoughts on EA, though I'd rather not and besides with the censorship on this site there are too many things I simply couldn't say. I'll just say that I do not like them, which is really sad because in the 90's they were one of my favorite companies now I can't stand them.

You talking about making friends because of the Sims is something I can relate to. At one point basically anyone I considered a friend I made on MTS, though I've struggled so much lately that I've distanced myself from anyone I've ever known. I won't go into details on that, I don't feel this is the place, so all I'll say is that I'm in such a bad place that I simply don't feel like I'm capable of being a friend to anyone especially not a good friend. Your story sounds very nice, and to have met so many people especially your spouse because of these games is really cool. I would kill to be able to have that sort of story, not literally kill of course I could never do that, but it sounds like you have a strong connection to the community and people within it.
