Re: [FIXED] Can't get married because Sim works for me

@Daneepfaff1 For me, using the McCommand Center mod worked best. It allowed me to force the marriage and everything was fine.

    Added this back.

Could everyone that still sees this please click me too (again)

Since I merged, all me toos on the old thread are lost for this.
  • I also have that issue.

Every time I try to marry my sim, I can't due to "employed".

It doesn't matter where they try to marry. They have been engaged for weeks(in the game).

I tried to marry my sim to a ghost first, which worked but once she decided it was time for her late/ghost husband to move on she met  her current with whom she can not marry. Can't divorce a ghost but then again that's not what the game complains about...

I currently have mods but got the issue before installing them. Got all expansion packs except "Get famous".
Have had this problem for about two -three weeks. Did not disappear after installing two expansion packs.

    Got Windows x64

You're right, the message is misleading. In most cases, you have to somehow break it off with the previous romantic relationships before the game will let you get married. Double-check your relationships to see if you have any other romantic relationships out there. If you can ask them to "just be friends", you should be able to get married again.

My case was a little different than yours - I had a few girlfriends that had died after the relationship. I did not have to break up with the ghosts. I don't know if being married to the ghost maybe made it register as an active relationship? I know you can't call the ghost over to break up with them, maybe you can wait for a visit and then ask to just be friends?

Thanks for the tips. I would like to just wait for the ghost but he is gone and so is the headstone, so no ghost to be seen. Although if I look at her relationships he is not mentioned there anymore. And if he isn't there, shouldn't the relationship be over?

I would guess that yes, if he is gone from relationships it should not be him that is blocking it. Do you have anyone under the romantic relationships at all (besides the fiance)? If you have anyone listed there, try calling them over to ask to "just be friends" and see if you can get married after that.

Only other thing I can think of is maybe you're trying to marry a sim that can't be married, like the mail carrier or a butler, something like that? If that's the case, I don't know how to take care of that other than a mod that can force the relationship.

No other romantic relationships and he is working on a career I gave him (was unemployed before moving in). Keep trying to marry them every time the game gets updated but doesn't seem to help.

  • @crinrict No he doesn't have any other relationships or dead spouses from what I can tell.

My game installed an update just now but the problem remains.

Is this still the same sim that can't get married? The one from this post: https://answers.ea.com/t5/Bug-Reports/NEEDS-INPUT-Can-t-get-married-because-Sim-works-for-me/m-p/7862693#M89680 That sim was previously married to a ghost, that was sent to the netherworld.

If so, even though you had the issue before your mods, there have been patches since you last posted that may be contributing to the problem.

    Spoiler

I suggest you try to repair your game -

      • Exit TS4 and Origin completely.
      • Delete the file localthumbcache.package Default location is C:\[YourUserName]\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4  Instructions with pictures are here: https://sims4.crinrict.com/eng/2014/09/delete-cache-files/
      • Move your entire Mods folder to your desktop (as a backup) Default location is C:\[YourUserName]\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\Mods
      • Launch Origin "As Administrator" (Right-click Origin.exe, choose Compatibility tab, Check the box next to "Run this program as administrator")
      • In Origin, right-click The Sims 4 icon and choose "Repair". Origin has to be online for this to complete. Let the repair run until completed, on the game and any installed packs
      • Launch The Sims 4 and check to see if the issue is fixed.

If the issue is fixed, then add your mods and cc back to the new mods folder a few at a time. If you have a lot of mods, use the 50% method

If you still can't get them married, make sure the sim you're trying to marry is not a service sim (maid, butler, gardener, mailman) @EuphorialQueen mentioned that being the leader of a club that both sims are in can cause this issue, too. Try her listed suggestion to ask your current fiance to "just be friends", then romance them back up and propose again.

If none of that works, the ghost might still be listed as the spouse, even though you can't see it. Resetting the sim might help, or you may need to use a mod to get rid of the relationship.

I hope one of these suggestions helps, so you can finally get this sim into wedded bliss! Happy simming!
