When you have sims in a group using the group feature, they are unable to sing duets at the karaoke machine with eachother.
When taken to the sing duet with box selection, the sims that are selected in your group do not appear, therefore you cannot select them.

I'm still seeing this bug in my games. No sim that is in a group can sing a duet with any other sim in that group. The only sims that appear on the picker menu are sim not in the group.
@crinrict, I think this is a bug having to do with festivals. After reading @NZsimm3r 's post, I played this morning and again didn't have a problem having my sim sing a duet with a sim in her group.
This was in an older save, so I cleared cache and played a save I started after installing C&D. When I grouped sims and took them to Planet Honey Pop after declining an invitation to go to the Romance Festival, my sim couldn't sing a duet with another sim in the group as they didn't appear on the picker menu. What I hadn't taken into consideration was that Planet Honey Pop is across from the festival and the game must have thought I had gone to the festival because my sim had the option to "throw petals". I even had the sims stay until the festival was over and still couldn't choose anyone from the group to sing with. It didn't even help to disband the group and regroup them. I was going to try the other karaoke venue but unfortunately, a vampire entered the lot and my sim couldn't travel.
The next time I grouped sims to go to the Waterside Warble karaoke venue, there was no festival and again, I was able to choose a sim to sing a duet with from the group. I'm not sure if the bug would be at both karaoke venues at the same time if a festival is in progress across from one of them since I couldn't travel due to the vampire incident. I'll test that when the next opportunity arises.

@crinrict, Update on what I'm seeing in my game. Got flea market notice. Grouped family and sent them to Planet Honey Pop and could pick from group to sing duet with. Sent group to Waterside Warble and only option to pick for a duet partner was the bartender, nobody from group. Sent them to flea market, even though no active sim can sell anything bug present. As end neared I had the group shoot baskets. After everything flea market related disappeared I sent the group to the venue and was able to then pick another group member to sing a duet with.
Geek Con came to town. Sent a group to Waterside Warble and could pick group member to sing duet with. Sent to Planet Honey Pop and only option for duet was the bartender. After Geek Con was over, I had group go back to Planet Honey Pop but unlike what happened with the flea market, nobody from the group appeared as a choice to sing a duet with. Disbanding the group and then reforming didn't allow for a group member to be shown for picking to sing a duet with either.
The problem does seem to happen when a sim group attends a festival and then goes to the karaoke venue near whatever festival it happens to be, or, goes directly to a karaoke venue when a festival near it is in progress. Why waiting until the festival is over to go sing karaoke doesn't allow a grouped sim to be chosen for a duet, as with what happened after the flea market items cleared, I don't know.
Unless you have a specific scenario you would like me to try, I won't be testing further. I now know if I want a grouped sim to sing a duet with another sim in the group, all I need do is avoid karaoke venues where a festival is nearby.
I was finally able to test this, and I can confirm mine is working as well after the patch.
