Guess I will need to kill of some Sims (:D)

Haven't had a chance to test .. nudge above bookmark.
Thank goodness someone opened a thread on this because I still for whatever reason cannot write fresh bug reports here so am mostly having to put up with bugs that nobody else has reported :'( I have no mods, no custom content, my game is fully patched and I just tried repairing it and the problem didn't change, so this is to do with in game mechanics somehow.
This is happening in my game but it's not sims released to the netherworld exactly. It's got a weird and disturbing symptom in my game because one of the 'dead' moved into a house in my neighbourhood. He did this as a ghost. I didn't have this happen when I patched the game but when I installed Get To Work which I bought in the sale yesterday. Since then when I load the neighbourhood the dead ghost sim who moved into the house showed up as alive but away from his home. Clicking on the home demonstrates that the sim is glitched like crazy because there is no aspiration. It's essentially an undead shell of a sim. That house is glitched now and won't open, I daren't try to evict him incase I implode the game completely. Image:
I think this is still to do with the patch and the fact that gravestones are now generated - those without gravestones are now showing up on my family trees with living avatars although as yet only Kiora has turned up in a house. However this is proving a gradual process.
Yesterday, on one Sim's family tree:
Everyone above third generation should be dead as they died of old age. Juliet and her husband are however showing up alive and so is Juliet's mother while her father still remains dead. BUT today, on a related sim's family tree showing the same pathway, it also showed Juliet's father as alive.
None of the dead have been released by me to the underworld but all died when I wasn't at their lot, so none have graves.
Added to this, in exploring Get to Work for the first time, the witnesses in my crimes are predominately ghosts of sims who do have graves, rather than living people.
Something weird is still going on with the way this game recognises death. I haven't released any sim spirits to the netherworld but sims who died on lots before there were graves I think are probably being sent there by the game because of the new settings from the patch. And so it is probably related to the netherworld release but it affects how the game does it automatically as well as a person doing it manually.
This is bugging my main family's family tree and Kiora bugging a house in my neighbourhood makes me worried about whether there will be an invasion of the actually not-dead to further bug my game each time I play :/ I just had a few messages telling me about sim spirits fading out - I guess that they will probably be the next 'undead' in the equation.

I'm having the exact same issue as you. Not only are my Sims gradually coming back to life, but they're crazy bugged and appearing as alive, traitless, and nameless in the 'other household' section of manage households.
I think that these Sims are ghosts that the game is trying to permanently delete, but can't for some reason. I only think this because they have their some of their data wiped.
I think so. I thought it was related to the gravestones not spawning but I just had a sim whose death was in progress when I and my sim returned to the lot and she has no grave. Her husband died soon after and his grave was there, but not hers. Still don't know where it is but worried about the fact this is spreading.
Most all of my dead sims now show up as elders in the family trees. I don't have any in unplayed or played houses thank goodness, just Kiora IN the house that I screencaptured. I do worry about them spawning downtown or something and glitching up the game.
I also think it's an issue with the game trying to delete them but somehow failing. And I do think it affects sims without graves predominately, as the game is now set up to spawn graves, making it logical that if there is no grave on the lot, the game thinks the sim is alive. Trouble is, because the sim already died, all its data is gone...and so it is stuck in limbo. Like Kiora. :/

I would suggest not playing with these zombie Sims and changing your settings so that the game doesn't auto populate lots.
Even though these Sims look alive, playing around with them might break something if this issue was to be patched.
Like I said before, I'm not playing with them, nor do I want to play with them. Aside KIora, none of them show up in my played or unplayed sims and I only clicked on Kiora when I noticed he'd gone from dead to alive in the house menu to get screen captures and data to report the bug in order that it could be investigated. Hopefully they'll patch it soon, and they'll go back to being dead, but I'm lucky in that at this point I don't have any but Kiora actively interfering in my game. I don't have many empty houses, just empty lots, so I'm hopeful I won't get any more random undead moving in!!
I'm having the problem that camsim mentioned. Some of my sims I know are dead appear as alive in family trees, but when I try to find them they're dead. This doesn't bother me much though and it usually goes away, it's the second issue you mentioned which I have a problem with. Half of my households are unnamed, not in world, traitless ghosts! It's so annoying! It's not just very old ghosts. Every single time a sim dies in any household, they become their own nameless household. I can't delete the ones I don't know because that'll leave holes in family trees which might one day merge with mine and I hate seeing that. The issue only popped up for me a month or two ago in a patch. I have a few packs and MCCC, but I'm not sure if any of them are the culprits.

HI EVERYONE :eahigh_file:🤒
Since the last update i've had some strange things happening with my sims. Sometime they will freeze and stick their arms out. also i notice that one of the family i am playing at the moment is the goth family and i've notice that my mortimer is not in the household but on the family tree he is an old man but i don't know if he has die or just disapper ? and this can be very frustrated. i can't find a gravestone of mortimer so i really have no clue if he is in the game or not, even though i like him in the family. i see everyone is having some similar of the ghost or gravestone. has anyone or how can u report this and sort this out because i really like the goth family. This would be great if we can get some answers 🙂

Hi,
I also have the a similar problem, but its completely opposite. Let me explain.
Sims who died before the patch are now shown as alive, and some of the "revived" ghosts are living around the neighbourhood, whereas sims who died after the patch are normal, and shown as ghosts. Are there any cheat codes we can use to turn the sims into dead permanently?
Thanks!
EDIT: Now, even sims who died after the patch are also shown as alive.
It's not opposite, it seems to be the same bug :/ Some people find it affects the post patch deaths first and some the pre-patch deaths, but ultimately it seems to affect all of the sims that don't have tombstones. I haven't heard of it affecting ones that do have tombstones yet, they are still appearing in my game as ghosts (mostly as witnesses at crime scenes O.O). But the others? My family trees look like yours 😉
Fingers crossed for a fix soon.
I have this issue, only my dead Sims seem to be actually alive like some others reported. They appear in manage households as alive Sims but I'm 100% sure they died - most of them died pre-patch, some post-patch. The father of my Sim who died when my Sim was a toddler just came back to life and he died waaaaaayyyy back. I really hate this and am getting so frustrated with all of these severe bugs in this game. I can handle a few small bugs, but this is big and like others have said, I HOPE there will be a fix soon as I think this is just unacceptable. About there not being any gravestones - my Sim has the urn of a vampire that died post-patch in his INVENTORY, and yet she just got resurrected by the game and appears as alive in manage households. Also, I have a LOT of last exception files from ghost culling in my Sims folder which I think might be related to this. I added a few of them to this post. I haven't been getting these last exception files lately, but I guess that's because my game just resurrected all of my ghosts. Ugh.
Edit: Just for clarity, at least two of these "resurrected" Sims have gravestones in my game.
Update: When I place these "undead" Sims into a lot I get the same thing others have posted, a Sim with no aspiration/traits. And when I try to load the household, this error pops up:
If ones with graves are now coming back to life, we have an even bigger problem :/ I hope it isn't going to progress down that route though I have to admit that I've been worried that it will...
Really hope we get a fix for this soon. We all need our sim dead to stay dead :/
Agree 100%. I consider this one of the bigger bugs which really have the potential to break your game... especially since I actually get game-generated error codes when trying to load these undead Sims. I tweeted @SimGuruNick and SimGuruArvin about it and I really hope they'll read & respond. I've never had these error codes before, so I consider this a pretty big deal.
Edit: So DON'T attempt to play these undead Sims because it will cause a game error code and bring you back to manage households! Also, I evicted the undead dude after placing him onto an empty lot to attempt to play, and that doesn't appear to be a problem. So to the user who mentioned being afraid of evicting, you can safely evict these Sims. Just don't try to load their households. This from what experienced myself.

Okay, this glitch is really driving me crazy.
Whenever a sim dies, they generate a household for that one dead sim. I have well over 50 sims dead and that means 50 households being created under the Other Household tabs, and every time I try to load that tab, my computer literally can't take it and hangs, which sucks. Moreover, when I want to view ACTUAL families that I don't play, I have to scroll through countless of "already dead" sims who are alive. Worse thing is that, I use the MCCommandCenter mod, and one of the ghosts have even shifted into someone else's household and became an alive sim's spouse! Now I don't even dare to break their relationship, in fear of the game breaking. Lol.
I really do hope they can fix this ASAP, I mean it's a neat idea to show dead sims, but not under "Other household", maybe under another tab for Dead sims.
- Pangyuyong has exactly my issue! Even sims who DO have tombstones and regularly come out of them are their own little undead household, and I hate it. I don't want to stop playing, but this combined with all the other bugs (most frustrating for me being removing the ability to buy career unlocks from one career once you've changed your career and left the lot, or deleting all of my sims' stats whenever I go to the park and come back or something) might make me put my games on hold till the patch where things are hopefully made a bit more stable!
@pangyuyongI think the general advice with mods is if they are making an issue worse, it's better to remove them or deactivate them till the problem is fixed. Also we need to really know if the issues are there without mods in the game because some of us play without mods and the devs need to know what the flaw is that their game is creating rather than the things mods are adding to that problem? It sounds like in your case those are making the situation a lot worse.
@Fierandethanks for the tip about the eviction. The house had seemed ok as a crime scene so I thought it probably would be, but I haven't tried to evict him yet. I sort of worry I suppose that if I do, someone else might appear there and it might get worse. But it's worth knowing for the future if I need that house...
Aside from testing what happened when Kiora first appeared and not being able to load the house, I haven't meddled at all in my undead sims or tried to load them. It reminds me of things from TS2 past, with sims losing all their traits and becoming half sims as they've been severed from the game somehow but not completely eradicated. I am sure this is what is happening here. The delete/cull function is not working as it should, so these sims don't know they're dead but also don't have enough stuff left in their coding to know they're alive. The game can't load them and so we get error messages.
Definitely definitely nobody should try to play any undead sims in case it has bigger repercussions for the game overall. And if you're having this bug and have mods that seem to be making it worse, take out the mods for now until the problem is fixed. It would be horrible if anyone lost their game file because of this bug going out of control...
- Anonymous8 years ago
@VraieEsprit I'm very sure that this problem exists even without mods. I've played this patch even without mods and they still generate a new household for a dead Sim. The fact the mod's story progression allow these dead sims to have marry etc. shows that the mod actually recognises the dead-alive as a "normal sim".
I tweeted SimGuruNick about it and he replied asking if I had MCCC and if not, to send my save files. I do have MCCC, but I went on Discord beforehand and Deaderpool assured me it was an EA bug and not caused by MCCC - told him this, and he accepted my save file. I suggest you do the same and approach the SimGuruNick and SimGuruArvin on Twitter, especially if you have these undead Sims because that seems like a very serious issue.
If you have MCCC, I suggest you change the number of Open Houses under the MC Population module (if you have this module) to a very high number. I did this, and this leads to no homeless Sims moving into lots. It's sucky if you actually like that feature, but I think it's better than to have these undead Sims in lots. Also, it's very disconcerting to me that MCCC is apparently marrying these undead Sims to others, because I wasn't able to load households that contained the undead Sims... am thinking of temporarily changing the marriage setting in that case, because I'm really afraid of losing any of my unplayed but precious Sims because they're married to one of those undead Sims... whom I don't want to delete because then I'd lose them in my family tree.
For those who have the undead Sim problem, do you have MCCC? It probably isn't caused by MCCC but I just want to be entirely sure because this is a nasty bug and if it is actually caused by a mod I'd much rather just delete it, even one as precious as MCCC.
- minosimu_nz8 years agoSeasoned Vanguard
@Fierande I'm pretty sure you can stop the filling of households with homeless Sims under 'gameplay' in the options menu.
I also have MCCC and asked Deaderpool about it. Initially I thought it was MCCC conflicting with the new culling options from the C&D patch, but Deaderpool said that MCCC will override EA's option no matter what option is selected. I now have MCCC's culling option switched off and have EA's culling option on, but I'm still having the issue. At this stage I'm just leaving the ghosts in the 'other household' section.
Yeah you can but I'm pretty sure that I had Fill Empty Homes turned off in the menu and MCCC settings that populate empty lots overrode EA's setting. Not entirely sure though. I currently have fill empty homes turned on but the number is very high in MCCC so I have nobody moving into empty lots even with EA's setting turned on, which I'm perfectly okay with. 🙂

I've had this problem for weeks now since the last patch. Any of my sims who die don't show up as dead on the family tree. I can also interact with the 'dead' sims i.e. invite them to hangout at current lot and send text or chat etc. from the relationships panel which is really annoying because they basically are still alive. They all have urns/tombstones that show up when they die on an active lot, I couldn't comment on what happens when they die off an active lot as I have auto-aging turned off for all of my active households. I also haven't tried re-adding them to a household or anything like that because I don't wanna risk breaking the game.
Are there any updates on this yet???
I don't use any custom content and I don't use any mods. I don't use MCCC. This is a game bug, not a mod bug - but I raised it as it might well be being made MORE complicated by the settings of a mod like MCCC.
But to reiterate, I have a vanilla game with no mods of any kind and no custom content either. And my dead are undead. 🙂
Ah okay, thanks a lot for letting me know. I was getting worried that it might be caused by MCCC - of course it being caused by the game itself doesn't really make things better, but at least I know for sure now. I hope the gurus will be solving this issue... sooner rather than later, as it's huge. I did manage to reach them on Twitter, so fingers crossed here.
I have this bug too, and I've also noticed that any sim appearing alive on the tree, as been wiped from my sims relationships/memory. They also have no tombstone. I don't use MCC.
