Re: [FIXED] [DU] Sims fail university despite meeting all criteria

I haven't had this issue, but I followed advice online to use Take Notes in work tones.  I forgot once and my Sim got a B+ in the class where I forgot.

Sim 1:  Super Sim, had most skills maxed including Handiness and Rocket Science before going into Physics, gained Robotics (and vet skill as an elective).  Used the Take Notes work tone every time but once, got a B+ on that course.  She did all homework/term papers/presentations and did study, but only for like an hour per exam.  Final GPA:  A+

Sim 2:  Mermaid in Sulani tiny house who was an A student in high school and was maybe a painting level 6 before going into the Fine Arts degree.  Used the Take Notes work tone religiously, did all homework/term papers/presentations, studied maybe an hour each for exams.  Maxed painting and photography in school and also gained high violin and cooking (elective, started at 0).  Final GPA:  A+

Sim 3:  Vampire in tiny house, high school A student, desperately broke.  Highest skill was piano--she gained some piano volunteering for character values, and continued with it--so I put her in Fine Arts.  Used the Take Notes work tone religiously, did all homework/term papers/presentations, studied maybe an hour each for exams.  Ended up with high painting and violin, decent DJ Mixing (elective), maxed flower arranging. Final GPA:  A+

I've never sent more than one at a time because it's pretty intense, and have never had them live on campus.  That said, I think that you get dinged hard if you don't use Take Notes.  Oh, and I made sure they all had at least a 3 in Research and Debate (Super is level 10 because she's Super).

    @xochiquetzl_xkvn The main reason for following my course of action as listed in my previous post is, to have time to do other things like having occasional jobs or participating in organizational activities whilst studying (just like in real live 🥳). I wasn't even aware for a long time that there existed an issue with DU. Interesting to know though as you said, that one doesn't have to max out on skills beforehand, I just did it to be on the safe side. "Take notes" was something I immediately applied since the beginning as there is a similar option when going to work which is "Work hard" where you can actually see your career bar filling up at a much higher rate than by applying the "Normal" attitude.

    @Japanic2012

    If it works for you you're clearly doing it right!  :D

    Yeah, mine don't participate in any organizations, don't have jobs, etc.  One (Super, her mom is a caster) had access to Potion of Plentiful Needs, which was a huge help, and the vampire didn't need to sleep so she went out dancing with friends a lot because I found her Fun was the hardest thing to keep up. Higher Research and Debate means faster homework completion and a generally easier time; I'd consider 3 an absolute minimum.

    I hear that participating in organizations actually boosts your grades, but my Sims all live at home and... *shrug*  Living at home helps with avoiding the awful "unbalanced meals" moodlets that I hear the dorm encourages.  Keep their needs high and avoid negative moodlets!

    Living at home:  Basically, one lived with her mom, one lived with her older sister, and the broke vampire was broke because I started playing her as an orphan teen, and she'd never had a job.  She got enough starting cash that I could give her a terrible house with a coffin, a bookcase, the cheapest couch, the cheapest TV, the cheapest computer, a desk for homework, and the cheapest bathtub.  (Vamps don't need toilets or kitchens, but require a roof.)  Oh, and an aquarium, since those are a source of cheap plasma packs if you don't have a frog breeding program, or run out.  😉  After that it was all collectables and gardening (found flowers).

    That said, yeah, my experience suggests that you get dinged a full letter grade for every time you go to class and don't take notes.  Yikes.  Yikes yikes yikes.

    Oh! and I second Japonic2012's "enroll on Friday."  I have them spend that weekend doing all homework and working on any presentations or papers before class even starts.

    [another edit, sorry... I DO have mods, but nothing crazy.  MCCC and bugfixes, most on the "hero approved" post.]

    Weird, I've never had any problems with classes. I've actually NEVER even used the "Take notes" thing. Never even knew it existed.

    I always thought classes were FAR too easy. As long as I do the homework and complete the term papers and presentations, I've never gotten less than an A. I usually have to study before I get an A+ though. But I've never even seen a "B" or less.

    Well, I accidentally clicked on "Plagiarize" term paper once (Because the d*mn menus keep randomly changing order) I was put on probation and STILL got an A+ in the course...

    Go figure.
