Re: [FIXED] Game Failed to Load - Error Code 123:

Product: The Sims 4
Platform: PC
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Everytime (100%)
What is your current game version number? Most Recent with Lovestruck
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? Everything
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Have lovestruck installed on any save. Attempt to travel literally anywhere.
What happens when the bug occurs? When travelling, it will load for a moment then launch me into the world editor portion of the game, with an error telling me to relaunch the game. Attempting to select the player household, and the sim(s) that attempted to travel will pop the error up again. Selecting the active household and a non-travelling sim will not produce the bug. It also duplicates any messages that would have played when I arrived at the lot 2 - 3 times.
What do you expect to see? The game taking me to the lot I selected to travel to.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Tested WITH and WITHOUT mods; issue persists regardless.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? This does not appear to be related to a computer patch or change, but a Sims 4 DLC patch for Lovestruck.

To explain better, I can select any household and attempt to travel, however once it loads in launches me into the world editor section of the game.  After some testing, I discovered this issue is not lot or world specific.

This includes but is not limited to; vacation destinations, wedding venues, parties/hosted events, group events, the highschool, acting studios, the police station, the hospital (to work or to have a baby), rental properties you own, sim houses within the same neighborhood (fails about 25% of the time), ANY venue or lot outside of the active households home world, clubs, karaoke bars, bars, restaurants, or any other commercial lots in the active home world, sims lots in other neighborhoods in same active world (fails about 75% of the time), any and all festivals held in San Myshuno, community lots (fails less often the others around 75% of the time for some reason), college graduations, prom, and highschool graduations (fails around 75% of the time).

I am still doing more extensive testing to better understand the actual issue here. Including looking into the logs and any reports I can find. I will say that I have noted the following:

  • It does not matter which sim in the active household attempts to travel.
  • Sims will simply bypass travel and pretend the option was never chosen if you reselect the household and choose a sim that was not travelling.
  • Selecting the sim from the menu that was trying to travel, and attempt the travel again will reproduce the error code and relaunch message.
  • Length of time in game has no affect.
  • MCCC (by Deaderpool) has no affect on this bug.
  • When unchecking and removing Lovestruck from my save data, this bug does persist (though some reports state otherwise, I still have the bug)
  • If the active household has more than 3 sims, the loading times into build & buy mode are greatly increased. This loading time increase also persists for attempting to travel.
  • Pets can sometimes be locked in a weird inaccessible place when a travel attempt includes them and fails. This has only happened to me twice, but felt like something to mention.
  • Children sims who attempt the travel ALONE may sometimes disappear temporarily from the active household. I literally only had this happen one time in all my testing, but I am not entirely sure what caused it. The sim child was still listed as a member of the household and they were still selectable, however their icon and physical self simply did not exist. After teleporting the sim using cheats, the sim appeared and I was able to debug reset them to fix their picture and broken animations. I have not been able to recreate this particular bug.
  • Attempting to travel with an entire household will not allow you to select any sim in the household to break the travel bug. You will have to relaunch the game and reselect the active household from the menu.
  • Saving in the world menu after this bug occurs may break the active sim household and your save file. Please avoid saving in the world menu after attempting to travel and it failing.

The first image is when I attempted to travel directly from my household. The second image is showing my sim menu and the sim that attempted to travel. The third is when I  selected the sim that was attempting to travel to load into the game as them.

  • So I did a bit more digging.

Parks so far are the ONLY lots I can travel to semi consistantly.

My issue? Its events. I get duplicate notifications for events when I go to any other lot and it causes my game to through the error. Upon further inspection, the last exception file had this little gem for me:

    Original: <sims4.tuning.instances.zoneDirector_LoungeEvent_MeetACelebrity object at 0x00007FF468F4CDD0>

    New: <sims4.tuning.instances.zoneDirector_LoungeEvent_MeetACelebrity object at 0x00007FF44AE64990&gt

This shows me that two events of the same type attempted to load, throwing an error (because you literally cannot have to two events of the same type active on one lot) and causing the game to esentially say "no thanks" and kick you out.

You can do this same test by testing to see if you get the exception at a location with an active event OR a lot that often has events like Karaoke Bars, lounges or "Hot Spot" lots.

Then attempt to visit a park, or other lot that does not generally have an event tied to it. You can also test this with ThriftTea as it often has a fashion show event active.

  • For anyone looking for a fix for this issue, unfortunately there is very little until a proper patch is released.

If your issue is related to lot events (which seems to be the most broken part of the game at the moment) then you might be able to use a mod from lilsimie to fix it, however it only works like a 3rd of the time for me. All we can do is wait for EA to release a patch, which they are actively working on.

There has been a HUGE amount of people sending in bug reports on this matter, and after my extensive research into the problem on my end I can tell you that somehow Lovestruck is causing events to duplicate themselves, likely due to a change in the regular date event and the new date event causing override issues, though I am not 100% sure about this specifically. Relaunching your game will not resolve the issue every single time, and often may just serve to make the issue worse. For the time being, just try to travel to a different lot that likely doesn't have a lot event and try the other lot later when the event might not populate.

This might not be a super easy fix, so it might take a little longer for EA to develop a patch that covers ALL issues at once. Though its very likely their very next patch will at least SOMEWHAT mitigate this issue, seeing as it is actively affecting the amount of active players.
