Re: [FIXED] Roofs can't be placed in enclosed rooms

I pretty experienced at building in Sims 3, but I can’t figure out Sims 4. My roofs either say “ roofs can’t be place in enclosed room” or place the roof on the foundation. It would even recognize that I’m trying to add a second story to a room. Yes I have pages up. I have removed the ceiling and added a ceiling. I don’t know what else to try. HELP!!!!

Place one wall and move it to create a room. Now you can cover this room with a roof.
Recently, the game has trouble recognizing the four walls as a room if you built such a room slowly.

Remember that you must turn on the second floor mode. On the right top you have arrows for it
    I don't work for EA

  • I'm having the same issue! I can no longer build higher than the first level. No rooms, no roofs.... nothing can be built that's above the main level. The grid is there to build on but it won't let me place a roof or second floor walls. First I tried repairing my game, didn't work. Then I removed all my game saves and tried to start fresh... still had the problem. So I did what I didn't want to do (which was uninstall and reinstall) and IT STILL WON'T LET ME BUILD!!! I'm so completely frustrated. I have spent so much money on this game and the best part of the game for me is building and designing the house. Please, PLEASE, PLEASE!!!! fix this issue.

Could you send this started home to the Gallery? Name it Test7 and give me your nickname on Origin. I will test it.
  • Yes of course. I uploaded it and named it test7. My origin name is Pinxkitty89. Also I have attached a screen shot of the issue.

EDIT: It seems to occur mostly in the neighborhood located at the top of Newcrest. It happens other places occasionally but always with these lots.

EDIT: EDIT: I have found that if I rotate the camera at a certain angle I can actually place it without a problem. Thats more than it was doing before so maybe they are already working on fixing it?? uggghhh I sure hope so.

I can reproduce, it's the TS3 camera. When you pan the camera to view at the wall almost it pops up when you place the roof.

Moving the camera fixes it though. The lot or build doesn't matter.

I can also reproduce, exactly as @Phantomlover1717 has stated, it's the angle of the Sims 3 camera.

It's entirely preventable by using the Sims 4 camera or simply changing the camera angle with the Sims 3 camera.

Switching to Sims 4 camera as suggested in this thread didn't help you ?

I'm getting some clarification on this before adding.  You can encounter similar errors using the TS4 camera as well, if you use CTRL+ to change the camera angle such that it is facing below ceiling level.  I would tend to see this as expected behavior, since the behavior allows you to place objects at a lower level than the level your camera is on, based on the angle.  If this behavior was changed, you would need to drop down a level to place objects on a lower level, which could be quite inconvenient (think working on an outdoor space).

    @BryonyRae
Personally I think the hight of where this error shows is too high still. But the main issue is, it shows the roof on top of the room, not inside of it.

On this angle you can place the roof on the edge but not in the middle on top of the room.

I'm impressed you got your camera to that point with the TS4 camera, I can't seem to even get close.

@simdigo  For now, just switch to Sims 4 camera in-game rather than the Sims 3 camera. That was what worked for us when we tested. Please read the whole thread to see this part. Anyway, once the issue is fixed they should mark it so in the bug report, as this thread is attached to a bug report. You can go to the first page of this report and mark 'me too' on the first, bug-report post. This is actually helpful. Thanks!

  • Has this been fixed yet? It only just started occuring for me in both cameras since the update 😭

  • I also have this issue. I think it is unrelated to the camera.

I don't know how to link directly to lots from the gallery. But I am working with a lot called "Windenburg Farm House" from user "SimLicy". Perhaps you can use her lot to replicate this.

On her build, you can see there are two small greenhouses off to the left. These are constructed by placing a floor, then adding a roof directly to the floor. That is, there are no walls, just a ground level roof that's been curved up tall to allow some space inside.

In my game, I deleted these two small buildings. Instead, I built a square room in that spot and tried to put a roof on it. I encountered this bug. I do NOT encounter this bug anywhere else on the lot, only in the place where the old "ground roof" buildings previously existed. To me, it seems like the game didn't fully delete the previous roofing section. No matter which camera I use or what floor I'm on, new roofing sections will only place on ground level. Trying to put them anywhere else throws the error.

    Hope that helps!
