Re: [FIXED] Sims Showing as off-lot while at home

Guys, I was able to figure out the problem

This corruption is caused by a sim being in the active work state, don't save to gallery in this state, *this appears to be spreadable.[NC]

In order to fix the corruption find the Sim that is on the active lot finish their career or sent them home, this is difficult if you have more than one rotational sim on a active career.  The active career needs to customize the active lot for the particular sim.  So if you can go to the active lot it would most likely crash, or if it didn't you would have no co workers on the lot.  If you get that its not the offending sim look for other households that are at the active work lot.  Finish playing the right sim in the active career lot or send them home early, when the sim gets home the active work lot will unlock all the other households and your sims in the other households will reappear again after the offending sim is returned home.  This is so the game can spawn tourist for the science lab and other active work related venues.  The asperations appear not to work for the sims that don't work that day or sims that are home won't go to school or work, because the game doesn't really realize you switched households in the middle of your workshift.

I am not sure if the bug is only related to the active career lots as they are locked lots which is unreachable by all the other sim households.  The expansion packs I can say that play apart in the bug or corruption is GTW, and GF, you should be ok with the other ones if you don't have though two.

Also as far as the Doctor Career, there is another bug that may be related if you have sim that you saved in the Detective Career or the Medical Career and either of though are active, and you switch households and the sim is pregnant, the sim will arrive at the hospital and no one will be there to delivery the baby, this is because the hospital or the police station is already in use, so pregnancy will reset and you can go home but if you go to the hospital it will reset again.

Note: Its only sims in the active career lot physically there and followed.  I found it on accident because I feel asleep playing sims and I accidently saved my game on the active work lot and almost forgot.  When I remembered I finished playing the offending sim and everything was fine.  Once active sim returns home, you would be able to upload sims to the gallery with no corruption.

Edit; in order to clarify it a little bit Sims that are at work will not return home and sims that are home will not go to school or work.  This is because the game was saved when a sim was on a active work lot and than you closed the program and forgot about it and load another household two, there will be two outcomes the sims will hot spawn on the home lot. even if they say they are home.  or they will spawn on the home lot and refuse to go to work or school and the jobs will reset and not get paid.

Edit2: I thought I would clarify that the spreadable in the gallery, because of people having same problems when using the same households from the infected save in a new save. Especially since the gallery doesn't check where the sims are at in the gameworld before uploading.  the easiest solution would be to disable the gallery on active career lots.

[NC] = Not Comfirmed: Note I have not done any testing on the gallery, but I am assuming though that are using  their families with problems in other save that it could be uploaded to the gallery in that state.  Since there is no check to see if a sim is actually reachable in the game would you could upload a sim household where one sim you forgot was on the active work lot and someone else download it that is new to the game could get the sim corruption that never played before.

Edit3: Might need to write a new bug report because this has a lot more of symtoms that range from strange UI problems to kids refusing to go to school.

It effects every job every family.  I even went to pet clinic with the cat, all seemed fine with the pet workers, however the cat showed up but my sim was there but greyed out and couldn't do anything.  There was something on the menu that said bring sim here, but it took me back to the house instead of bringing the sim there.

I've tested a few save from this thread now and come to different results so there might be more going on.

From the three saves I tested, these are my results:

    • 1 save had indeed a Sim from a different household still at the doctor career. The save was also throwing an LE on whatever lot I loaded. Sending that Sim home fixed the issue. Just waiting until the evening, I got a message that said Sim is going home and then reloading the lot also fixed it. That was Save of @Zoebuggie
    • 2 saves had Sims in active careers being at home while showing still at work. Only way I found for them to come out of work was to quit the job and re-join. That also seems to have fixed the issue for all affected families. @mtmtharden @lizzyrice2

What you need to do seems to go through all your played Sims that are in active careers and check what they're status is.

Good spot on this @Sid1701d9.. It does def. seem related to active careers but it looks like it can happen in more ways then just switching while on an active lot.

If anyone wants to PM me their save for further investigation if there's more to this, feel free to do so.

Still curious what happening for @RouenSims who said no active careers for them.

@crinrictI added another bug report called strange behaviors if saved while active career lot in progress.  There seems to be people reporting stuff individually, but its all connected tot he same problem.  I was able to connect the UI problem the Pet clinic problem and not going to school work problem is all associated with this active lot in progress.  Even the asperations not showing there goals is related.  I just don't know how to link the other threat.

    I've answered you.

It's best to continue to treat them all as separate even if they have the same root cause.

I think it's good for testing if they need to check of separate reports, making sure nothing is overlooked.

Also, people always search for reports by symptom and not by cause.

If you have any solutions/workarounds it's best to post them in each thread you think is related or add the info.

  • Hey guys (@Sid1701d9 and @crinrict) thanks for adding your ten cents to the thread. Honestly, I had given up on HQ helping me out so, through my pure stubbornness, I figured out how to solve this awful grayed out problem. It's a little janky, but so far it's been a reliable fix so we'll take it right?

The Cause of Problem (I think):

Before I dive into solution though, I want to share how I was able to replicate this break (because I inevitably did it again). It did occur during an active career (and @crinrict funny enough, it was with Dr. Andrew Sommer's new wife who is also a doctor) but it happened specifically when I used the "stay longer" feature at work. Basically, I hit "stay longer" to finish up active career tasks and then when I was ready for the sim to leave, he wasn't unable to. Have you guys ever experienced this glitch before? I've had it happen plenty of times before, it's annoying, but usually, as you guys touched on, I have to save from their career and then go back to their household and right click "bring sim here" to get them back. Sometimes it would as you describe effect them going to work. For example, it would start the hour countdown until they needed to go to work then (say they worked at 9 am) once it became 9 am it would suddenly reset and show that they were off for two days. Always two days for some reason. But, for whatever reason, after two magical sim days, usually the issue would be resolved, or if I played with another household, the problem would correct itself. Honestly, I have vowed to avoid the "stay longer" functionality at active careers. I think they should get rid of it or do what they're doing with the acting career and have them "Stay on lot."

Another thing I noticed is that sims who are grayed out are appearing to get stuck in lots when you're not actively playing with them. For example, if I'm playing with Dr. Andrew Sommer and I take him to the Willow Creek park where he sees other sims who I've also created there, those sims would then get stuck and gray. Does that make sense? I think if YOU make them go to a lot, you can move them freely but it seems like when they are getting stuck it's when they are exploring the world solo. At least that's been my observation. So that makes me wonder if the  "spawning tourist" functionality that @Sid1701d9 mentioned is the culprit.

But, I do think that "stay longer" is somehow tied to the issue as well, so I'm curious if either of you noticed that during active careers?

    Solution (Grayed out, unplayables):

Families that have Grayed Sims and Non-Grayed Sims- This fix is pretty straightforward. Just use a/the playable sim (meaning the sim that isn't grayed out as if they aren't home) take out their phone and have them invite over any and all grayed out sims to "Current lot." You can also do this from the relationship page, basically, anyway that you can "invite to current lot" will fix them. Just make sure it's not a time when they can be "sleeping." This will bring the sim back to the lot and make them playable as usual.

    Families that Are All Gray

This one is a little more complicated and a bit of a pain in the butt because it's more involved and going to be hard to describe, but I'm going to do my best as it DOES fix the issue and based on testing permanently as long as I stay away from the "stay late" at work feature.

Okay, so let's say you're dying to play with your fav sim Jennifer Jones, but she's having the grayed out issue that prevents her from being playable. She has two other household members, but unlike the first example, both of them are grayed out and unplayable as well. However, Jennifer has a sister, Grace Fields, in another lot who is playable and not grayed out. What you're going to want to do is play with Grace in her household and just like above, have her invite over Jennifer. Once Jennifer arrives, save the household and head back to the neighborhood. Return to the Jones household and select Jennifer specifically to play with. It should say she's at the Field's Residence when you click to play her and then take you to the Field's residence where you should finally be able to play with Jennifer as normal but you'll notice that her other two family members (we'll call them Jim and Jimmy) are still grayed out.

Have Jennifer return home. So far (and I've done this with several sims now) this hasn't been an issue so long as the travel of the sim was something that I caused. Once Jennifer is home, have her invite over Jim and Jimmy, and they two will become playable. So far, this works for all ages from elder to toddler and both cats and dogs. I have yet to see this impact babies (and it's somewhat rare in toddlers; I think because they rarely solo travel), but maybe it's possible for them to get stuck at daycare?

    Testing

So far, I've been issue free for about a month. I've moved sims from other lots, played in active careers (again, avoiding "stay longer at work") and haven't had the issue. Moreover, once I started implementing the fixes described above, it seemed to help fix other households too, but I've also been diligent in my patch updates, so it's hard to analyze cause and effect accurately.

I've never had any issues with the staying late feature but I haven't played active careers lately.

I know the save I tested with is probably from a long time ago seeing it from your perspective but funny enough, fixing Dr. Sommer seems to have fixed all greyed out Sims for me. I assume the working late not working correctly is what caused him to become this state ?

Also, if you find a fix for something, it's great if you share it. We're all users here trying our best to figure out issues but if we don't have them, how can we find a fix ?
Usually it's hard to try find out what's causing the issue cause vital information about how you play is missing.

AHQ is about users helping users and the great brain power of the community is what makes this place what it is. Finding solutions together and sharing them so the next person can profit from it.

The grayed out sims are sims that are sick and should be in the hospital, but because of the sims being stuck at the hospital they had to make them leave the hospital during non active work hours because of the fact that club leader would get disqualified because of club rules, the new sim choosen to be club leader was in hospital unreachable, so club showed no leader.  This also happens on aging too.  Once sim was cured the new leader would get chosen and everything was good.
