Re: [FIXED] Sims Showing as off-lot while at home

Product: The Sims 4
Platform:Mac
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Often (50% - 99%)
What is your current game version number? 1.51.77.1220
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? Cats & Dogs, City Living, Get Famous, Get to Work, Get Together, Seasons, Dine Out, Jungle Adventure, Outdoor Retreat, Parenthood, Strangerville, Vampires, Backyard Stuff, Bowling Night Stuff, Cool Kitchen Stuff, Kids Room Stuff, Laundry Day stuff, My First Pet Stuff, Perfect Patio Stuff, Toddler Stuff
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Yesterday I bought and installed Strangerville and started a new family of one Sim there. I wanted to try out the new Military career and the new Aspiration. So I created a Sim with the Strangerville aspiration and moved her into the lot next to the trailer lot. First of all, she didn't go to work when she was supposed to, the time on the career panel would just say '1 minute' then flick over to '24 hours'. Next, her aspirations panel was blank, but she could still achieve them. So going to the secret lab and collecting evidence would make the aspiration panel ding. Lastly, when she was meant to be going to work, I thought perhaps if I went to save it and 'manage worlds' then come back in, it might reload and she might be at work, or go to work. She disappeared completely and her character icon was greyed out and she appeared 'at home' if you hovered over it. But she wasn't at home, and typing 'resetSim' into the cheat panel had the error of no sim found. So then I had to kick her out of her home, move her in somewhere else and then I could play on, but aspiration panel still broken and still didn't go to work. I've now changed to a different career to see if that works. Very disappointed with this expansion pack so far! Feel like it's broken my game ☹️
What happens when the bug occurs? Sim is meant to go to work, she doesn't go to work. The time in the career panel counts down, and then immediately flicks over to 24 hours and the sim doesn't do anything and no option comes up to go to work or stay at home etc. Aspirations panel is just empty (haven't tried changing aspiration or anything though!)
What do you expect to see? Sim getting changed and going to work. A complete aspirations panel.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Never used.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Yes
Please describe the patch or change you made. Installed strangerville (but to be honest, I haven't played for a few weeks so could be a new patch!)

Attached three screenshots, first one shows empty aspirations panel. Second two show the Sim's career panel and her not leaving to go to work or any notification having appeared. It doesn't show as running late or anything either. This happened multiple days in a row, so wasn't a glitch on a particular day. She managed to go to work twice which is how she got promoted, weirdly, but no idea what I did differently between the days.

Hi! I tried repairing the game and it hasn't fixed it. I've managed to complete the aspiration without seeing the tasks, so they still complete, you just can't see them. I've switched career with my sim and she is still not going to work, thus not earning money. Bills have come in and everything has been shut off as she has no money left :/

I tried playing on a different family and that one did work and could go to work which was interesting. I then went back to play with the broken sim in Strangerville and she was appearing as 'at home' but not playable so I had to move her out then move her back in. Really frustrating, think it's basically Strangerville that's broken from what I can see at the moment. I've exported my save file from today (before I completed aspiration) in case anyone wants to take a look.

    Thanks!

From your information it looks like you are saying this was a brand new Sim created in CAS by you.
And that you played another family in the same save and everything went as expected.
But returning to the original Sim you found her to still be 'broken'.
I have a recent save with a military Sim that seems to be working with that career,

One more thing to try... Is she on the gallery? Or do you have the freshly created Sim still in your library?
You can try placing her into a new save to test to see if the issue is related to that particular Sim.
If that does not work I will see if a save file is needed.

Keep in mind that that military career is a  play at home work career and you should get goals around the city you need to complete in order to progress in the career.  There are special and unique goals for the military career when the story is active, but other than that nothing mandatory.  Sims should get the alarm clock text message where you can choose to go to work in rabbit hole or work from home.

Also the blank asperation is caused by a get to work bug, sim was most likely saved in work state.

  • I chose for the SIM to go to work on the first day and that worked. But afterwards she didn't go to work. No alerts appeared at all, the time just rolled over and she didn't get paid. I switched to the secret agent career and the same thing happened, she didn't leave for work and there were no prompts to go to work and she didn't get paid. No 'Go to work' button appeared in the career panel and it didn't go red to say she was late. The time just rolls over and says 24 hours left. 🙁

Yes was a sim created by me in CAS. Do I need to upload to the online gallery?  Or normal do you mean the normal household management bit?

  • Are these the workarounds?

1 save had indeed a Sim from a different household still at the doctor career. The save was also throwing an LE on whatever lot I loaded. Sending that Sim home fixed the issue. Just waiting until the evening, I got a message that said Sim is going home and then reloading the lot also fixed it. That was Save of @Zoebuggie

If I open my family and the sim is 'at home' but greyed out, I can't send her home. She's just totally unplayable, I can't click anything and the lightening bolt says 'Care for Self', 'Build Skill' and something else (but no option to bring home as she's technically at home?). I've tried to travel and she won't travel, so only option is to Evict or move her into another lot and she re-appears as normal until I save & exit and reload. She doesn't go to work because of the bug, so I can't bring her home from work either.

2 saves had Sims in active careers being at home while showing still at work. Only way I found for them to come out of work was to quit the job and re-join. That also seems to have fixed the issue for all affected families. @mtmtharden @lizzyrice2

As mentioned above, I've changed career to the Secret Agent one and it doesn't seem to have fixed the issue. She still doesn't go to work ☹️ Also tried adding the 'Connections' reward from aspirations panel to start her at a higher level but hasn't helped. Thought it might be a military bug but apparently not!

Also, a side note, the careers panel keeps messing up and showing placeholder text, especially when I was trying to do the military career.

Def. the same issue as this thread so I merged your post.

Sending you a PM with what you need to do.

  • Thank you!! it all worked, hurrah :D

No more blank aspirations and my sim finally goes to work again.

Although one more odd thing, a toddler grew up while in daycare, and this brought the toddler back into the house while mum was at work. So a few hours left unattended (but controllable so fine) :P As soon as mum came home, icon was no longer greyed out and the toddler 'returned from daycare' and all went back to normal. 🙂

Glad it worked. I hope they can fix this bug soon
  • Hi, I can’t quit there job as I am unable to do anything with them as everything is unclickable.

@hlsweeting It's likely a different household then the one you're playing. Check all households where you have an Sim in an active career.
  • I’m sorry I don’t follow? All of my households in the sims are grey’d out and not clickable, all are unable to use the phone or anything else to actually quit the jobs or travel. The only way i have seemed to correct this, is by moving the family but then once i start playing again and they either go to work, school or i travel with them, this repeats again.

This is totally random and out of the blue and i’ve checked every forum chat that i’ve been tagged in and looked on google everywhere and all the solutions are either, remove mods or click “care for self” etc and they are not working.

apologies as I frustrated by this as I keep getting the same answer and would really appreciate another alternative, thank you

@hlsweeting Hm. I only see one played family in that save (Willow Creek) and they look fine in my game.

Did you send me the right folder ?

You need to go to Del Sol Valley and load the Simon family.

Adam Kiej is the one with the issue. Have him quit his job and rejoin. Everything should be back to normal afterwards and you can load your other family you wanted to play.

  • Thank you so much it worked!!

Been speaking to EA all day and nothing.

    Can’t thank you enough
