Product: The Sims 4
Platform:PC
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
What is your current game version number? 1.69.59.1020
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? Seasons, Get Together, City Living, Spa Day, Parenthood, Vampires, Realm of Magic, Fitness Stuff
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? I don't know.
What happens when the bug occurs? The sim couple are unable to use romantic interaction because they are suddenly related to each other.
What do you expect to see? The sim couple should be able to perform romance interactions with each other.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Yes
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Yes
Please describe the patch or change you made. 1.69.59.1020

This issue started occurring since 1.69.59.1020 was installed. I've tried removing my mods and repairing the game files but the issue persists. I was able to fix it temporarily when I cleared all relationships of the sims. However, the bug re-appeared some time later while I was playing. I am unsure what triggered it.

Summary: Sim A is married to Sim B. Sim A suddenly became Sim B's niece. Sim A has a daughter who also became Sim B's niece.

@ongoingwhy Does it happen with all your sims or just a specific couple ?

Did you delete the localthumbcache file after removing mods ?
  • @crinrictI am only playing with a single household for this save. It only affects the couple. They can still use romantic interactions with other sims. The issue persists after deleting localthumbcache and removing the mods. I will test whether it will trigger again on an older save with mods removed.

Edit: I figured out what's the issue. I checked my save and sim A became the aunt of sim B even though they were married. Sim B, who was supposed to be the stepmother of sim C, became her aunt as well. For some reason, it was showing up correctly in the family tree. I managed to clear it with MCCC but I will test whether it triggers again.

  • @crinrictIt's probably not the same issue. I tried to see whether entering CAS would trigger it earlier but it didn't. Sure, I have a save that still has the bug. How should I send it?

Edit: I think I know how this happened. I've been trying to set both sims A and B as the mothers of sim C with MCCC. I don't understand how the spouse ended up becoming the aunt though. The older save should have also been affected too.

@ongoingwhy Nvm. I thought they needed saves for that but it seems I remembered that wrong. So all good.
  • @crinrictHmm, it's still triggering. Sim A is suddenly the niece of sim B again. I used MCCC earlier to clear all the relationships for both sims, so there should have been no problem. I've also noticed that sim A mysteriously gained an unknown parent in the family tree but this unknown parent is not related to sim B. I'll try to create parents for sim A to see if that solves this issue.

Edit: Creating a new parent for sim A doesn't solve the issue. I think the issue lies with sim B since both sims A and C are turning into her nieces.

  • @crinrict Editing? As in changing stuff with MCCC? I haven't done that since clearing the relationships of the entire household and adding sim C as the daughter of sim A.

@ongoingwhy So it just happened again when you started the game ? Since you said you have been able to clear it up with MCCC
  • @crinrict Yes, but I don't think it immediately happened after starting the game though. It happened halfway through while I was playing. Do you think the unknown parent might be a clue? After I cleared the relationships with MCCC, there wasn't any parent in sim A's family tree. However, after she mysteriously became the niece of sim B, she gained an unknown parent. Another thing I noticed is that this new change doesn't reflect in the family tree. Sim B didn't gain any new sibling even though she became sim A's aunt.

@ongoingwhy It's very odd for sure. I've seen other people with invisible parents, they sometimes seem to be generated when the Sims have non or maybe if the parent gets deleted from the game.

I do think it might be connected to the other issue but I haven't looked into that closely enough to see what's happening.

Would you mind uploading them to the gallery ?

When looking at the relationships in CAS, you have 4 Sims

Sim A is Mom to Sim B and Sister of Sim C and Grandmother of Sim D

Sim B at the same time is The Daughter of Sim A and the Wife of Sim C (which kinda makes her married to her aunt), Sim D is her Daughter

Sim C is The Sister of Sim A and the wife of Sim B and Aunt of Sim D which probably has something to do with Sim A and Sim Sim C being sisters)

Sim D is Granddaughter of Sim A, daughter of Sim B and nice to Sim C

So yeah, I think the weird constellation of a Sim being married to their aunt is causing the issue.

Maybe you changed something in a way you didn't want to in MCCC ? Is that Sim A - Sim C sisterhood on purpose ?

  • @crinrict Nope, I created Sim A as the mother of Sim B without setting any relationship with Sim C. I tried clearing all relationships of Sim A and it doesn't remove the aunt/niece relationship of Sim B and Sim C.

From what I know, doesn't each Sim only store the data of their parents, siblings, and children? The other relationships like uncle/aunt/etc are calculated based on the above. So, if Sim A being sisters with Sim C really was the issue, the bug should be resolved by removing Sim A from the equation. However, it doesn't. Furthermore, it doesn't explain why Sim D is the niece of Sim C.

@ongoingwhy If I remove Sim A as being the sister of Sim C, I can get the aunt/niece relationship cleaned up but I had to re-set everything in cas (which you can basically only do if you place them in a new save)

Maybe if you remove the sister relationship with MCCC it can work ?

How did you remove Sim A from the equation ? If the relationship is still there somehow, then it still be a factor.

Maybe it is the same as the other as I assume you didn't set them to be sisters ? LIke Sim A suddenly became the Sibling of her daughter-in-law ?

This is relationship Sim A and B have. also the daughter if the niece is also a niece (great-niece ?)

EDIT: Tried removing relationships via cheats as well but it seems whatever messes this up, is so dominant, it comes right back.

  • @crinrictYeah, I've already tried removing the sister relationship with MCCC, Sim B and D are still the niece of Sim C.

I used MCCC to clear all the relationships of Sim A.

Yup, I created Sim A with CAS and set her as the mother of Sim B. She was household mates with Sim C when I closed CAS.

I've tried using the family relationship cheat earlier too. The CAS full edit mode doesn't work either. The only method that temporarily works is clearing out all of their relationship via MCCC.

@ongoingwhy I don't think there's a way to permanently fix them other than putting them in the library, create a new household, download from gallery, fix relationships, then place them in the game and delete the faulty ones.
