Re: [OPEN] Sims stand/sit somewhere else instead of eating at table (Patch 1.68.154)

@LiljrocXB1 For me there's still a tendency to do that if Sims are in the other room doing something there. Socializing is still prioritized over eating at a table.

Do you have this when no other Sims are around ? Is anyone in the bedroom at the time ?

  • No, they'll completely just pick the closest room just to eat.

  • Micromanage your Sims! I always have my sims sit at sofa and watch cooking channel.

So grab a meal then have them sit where you want them too!

if they go to closet room and over ride your choice you might have a glitch

@grungy-salt With the micromanaging they still go somewhere to sit down before going where I want them to sit. If I queue grabbing food and sitting in the sofa and watching TV my sim will grab the food, go sit down somewhere where I didn't tell them to sit, get up, go where I told them to sit.

@Amondra That's something I saw a lot when I played the BFF household. They ALWAYS went to sit outdoors, even if there was a storm going on, instead of sitting in the kitchen. I ended up selling the outdoor table. -.-

@SqueamishNerd ^ THIS (the first point). It's so frustrating that when I want them to sit somewhere specific and have that queued after grabbing the meal, the sims will still go and sit somewhere else before sitting where I want them to sit. Like if I want my sims to have a conversation while they eat it's sometimes impossible because the first sim has already started their meal and will finish it by the time the second sim is done walking around choosing chairs. The worst is with drinking coffee/tea with a meal. I queue interactions for grabbing a drink and grabbing a plate but unless I stop them, they will get the drink, go sit somewhere, finish the drink and put the cup in their inventory and Then go grab a plate. This whole eating/drinking multitasking is so broken in this game. >:/

@siirysiir What I sometimes do is to have them put the servings in their inventory (I think it's called "take a plate" or "take a serving" or something like that), then I can drag the serving from their inventory to place on the table. It's harder with drinks since the action must be cancelled (except for the drink trays from Spa Day and Backyard Stuff) if I want to place out the drinks. When I've placed all plates and drinks I turn off autonomy and have my sims sit down at the table, and when everyone is sitting down I tell them to eat and drink. This is if I really want all my sims to eat together, for holidays and such.

@SqueamishNerd I mean, same. Also I ain't got all day to wait for them to do stuff so sometimes it's just easiest to shift-click and reset them after they've grabbed their morning coffee and then just drag the mug to the breakfast table. I just _hate_ that this is the stuff we have to do to be able to have "realistic" meals with family. You have to T-pose to have a morning coffee together with your significant other and put plates of food in everyone's pocket to be able to eat a family dinner at the same time (and even then it sometimes fails when the sim for some reason thinks that this ain't it, I need to sit in another chair).

And the fact that guests can't drink with us. Like the only way for us to simply have a cup of coffee with a visiting friend is IF THE FRIEND MAKES THE COFFEE in my house and is not interrupted until they start drinking the beverage. It's 2021 and there's still no way in this game to ask a friend to join for a cup of coffee/tea at my house. Like, sorry for the rant I'm just so frustrated and also angry at EA for not making the effort to even try to make this kind of basic human everyday behaviour possible in the game. ☹️

This is happening on console too. It's annoying enough with one sim but it's worse with a family as they all huddle round together or they walk across the house and sit or stand near a pet or family member. They also go and sit in the pool, involving an outfit change too obviously. I always have stools at the kitchen counter and usually a dining table close or in the same room.

Grabbing leftovers, they always stand at the fridge door.

They will not eat at the outdoor dining table when food has been cooked on the grill and all trot indoors to the sofa or sometimes even the computer desk. Can't really have a dinner party or BBQ as guests don't sit at the desired place together.

At breakfast when you need them to move quicker, I usually assign stools or chairs to them but typically, that's the one time they do choose a seat themselves... resulting in musical chairs and late departure to work or school.

Sometimes it helps to set the table, but then you have to reset each individual place setting every single time.

Should be a simple thing...sit at the nearest stool or chair.
