Surely this should be easy - remove toddler request to be "put down" from all chairs.

No reason for toddlers to ask to be "put down" from regular chairs.

And dumbest thing is, toddlers get down themselves anyway yet parents trudge all the way over to the toddler who is now standing in front of the regular chair just to pick them up so they can get their "put down" action...for no reason at all.

@khitteh and @83bienchen  I tried something in my game that has helped with this issue (at least so far).

I've been battling this nonsense for ages also. I submitted a bug report about it back in December but got nowhere with it. At one point, I had 9 toddlers in my household, and this "put down" idiocy made me want to drop kick my PC and rage quit forever.

My household has a toddler again, and as soon as the kid aged up to a toddler, the "put down" mess began, and I seriously contemplated moving every single seating surface in the house to the household inventory until the kid grew up, just to stop this madness because I simply cannot take it anymore.

BUT...then I found something that actually helped a good bit, at least in my game (so far). I don't know if you've tried this yet, but just in case you haven't....

If you play with MCCC installed, use MCCC Tuner to activate Autonomy Scan on the toddler and close the MCCC menu. Then, click on the toddler again and select Autonomy Scan from the pie menu. There are two instances of "Pick Up" in the list of available autonomous actions. Disable them both and see if that helps.

I did that in my game, and in three sim days, the "Put Down" action has only popped into an adult's queue once, and it was at a point when the toddler's energy need had dropped into the yellow and his mother came to take him off the couch at bedtime...which is perfectly understandable. That makes sense.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. So many needless problems with this game could be eliminated if the autonomy system hadn't been designed completely backwards.

As it stands now, autonomy (including NPC and pet autonomy) seems to take priority over player directed actions, and I will never understand why that design decision was made, because it's a game breaker and, in many circumstances, eliminates the player's ability to actually play or influence anything that happens in the game at all.

Perfect example, when my household's current baby was born, I ended up having to completely disable autonomy for all sims just to make it possible for the baby to be fed.

The child nearly got taken away because my attempts to tell the father to feed it kept getting canceled from his queue so that everyone else in the house could autonomously talk to and coo at the baby while it starved. Other sims' autonomous actions literally prevented the father from feeding the child because everything I told him to do got canceled. That's...well, I have many words for what that is, but I'll keep them to myself for now.

Let it suffice to say it's the complete opposite of how it should work. Autonomy (especially NPC/pet autonomy) should never cancel out player input...but it does, unfortunately for us.

Anyway, I'll step off my soapbox now.  🙂

If you use MCCC and haven't tried deactivating the "Pick Up" autonomous actions on toddlers, give that a shot and see if it helps. It did in my game. Granted, I've only played through 3 sim days with autonomous "Pick Up" deactivated, but so far, so good.

Oh, and side note, but THANK YOU, Bienchen, for your excellent work. So much of my sanity has been preserved over the years because of you and your wonderful mods. You are appreciated. Don't ever doubt that! ❤️

  • This is the most annoying thing ever! Equally annoying is their need to be placed in the high chair to ask parents for food if they’re near it. It’s soo silly and wastes time, when sims already move extremely slowly
