Same thing is happening currently in my game when I'm trying to write songs for both guitar and piano, and also song lyrics. My sim loses progress any time I have them stop to do something else (like eat, sleep, and use the bathroom, or go to work - you know, life). I tested it and had them write all day and by the time the progress bar got to the end, the task never completed and my sim doesn't finish writing the song. And yes, I'm resuming my songs from my inventory. 

I have the same issue with writing books, but am using a mod to fix that issue because it's just so dang irritating.

    Same issue here - I haven't tried writing books but writing a song on violin won't complete at all

    I have been having the same issue with the new update. They never finish the book no matter how long they have been working, and all progress is lost when travelling.

    @Ninner05 This is happened in my game with piano songs...not tested any other instruments...the progress happens normally and doesn’t seem to be lost if I stop and restart or anything but when the circle fills up she just carries on and it never completes ☹️ so frustrating and can’t complete the aspiration either now...
