I downloaded a lot from the gallery and placed it in willow creek (retail type). Today I wanted to replace this lot with a different retail lot. I download and place, choose furnished and tick check but the lot that is loaded is still the old one. I have tried a few times, with new starts as well, nothing changes. I have NO mods or CC and all extension packs.
Do any lots in your game disappear ? Wonder if the two are connected
Did you bulldoze the lot first manually and then place or just replace the lot ?

All other lots are fine as far as I can see, no disappearing.
For me there is no bulldoze option for this or any other retail lot, only build and change lot type.
I changed the lot type, went to build mode to bulldoze, returned to the world map, went into the gallery, chose my favourite lot and tried to place it aaaand ...it didnt work. Now I have an empty retail lot with a big orange warning sign to show me its incomplete.
Is this only happening in that one save game ? Would you be willing to share it ? Just upload to some third party file sharing site and PM me the link.

I am also having this issue. Whenever I try to place a lot I downloaded from the gallery it won't place in willow creek and will just throw me to the worlds view mode. I've tried restarting the game and computer but it keeps happening. I tried using a different lot (house) in a different location and the same thing still happens. 😕mileysad:

You won't loose anything. Just make sure to not delete any files and make a backup.
Then try on a fresh game to see if it's save game related.
