Sims cannot collect microwave meals

Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Place a microwave on a kitchen counter without any clutter or obstructions, instruct a sim to make a meal, any meal option.
What happens when the bug occurs? The sim will wait for the microwave cycle to finish and then will walk away. The sim won't collect the meal. If i ask the sim to collect the meal, the only option is "Collect" but then the sim washes the dish.
What do you expect to see? I would like the sim to autonomously collect the meal from the microwave and eat it.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Not now. I've removed them.

I stopped using microwaves for a long time because this bug happened years ago. Last year I tried to cook in a microwave and my sims were able to complete the task. but in the last 6 months or so, the bug has returned. I have tested this with and without mods installed, it happens in both instances. I have deleted the various caches, deleted the Sims 4 folder and then repaired the game. The bug persists. I like microwaves for dorms, tiny homes, and themed gameplay, but otherwise I don't use them as often because of this persistent bug. I do not consider this high priority.
