I do not have laptop mode turned on. Should it be or no?
It cause the problem for a friend but I've had this bug now reported by several and for those, laptop mode was not the cause.

I felt I should add my two cents! On a premade lot, I've never had Sims come inside the house to knock, but on custom built lots I've had a Sim walk in one door, cross the whole house and go out another door and turn around to knock from outside. I've also had visiting 'stranger' sims walk in the door, and turn around and knock from the inside to ask to come in. (I have the option to invite them inside, while they wait patiently inside my living room staring at the door.) I am not running on laptop mode.
