I took a look at this in my game, and I had no problem with placing the window properly in a gabled roof.  I used the same window that you show in your pic.  To get the window as high as you show in your pic, I did have to turn MOO on, but I could see the inside of the attic with no problem.  Without MOO on, I got a "can't intersect with walls" red error message.  I could place the window lower in the gable wall without MOO being on though.

I have seen this behavior with windows and doors many times in my game when I'm going between build and live mode or even sometimes when I load a save.  All it takes to fix it is to go into build mode and grab the window (or door) and it will self-correct to where you can see through the window again or the door texture will show properly.

    Hope this helps.
