I wouldn’t want an RPG either. I’d like optional quests similar to the Sims 3 opportunities as mentioned by Marduc_Plays. For sandbox play it’d be perfect if we were able to create and share our own opportunities / quest lines.
As mentioned in the OP nearly every Sims game has had some sort of quests / story mode in the past without it feeling like an RPG.
