It would be optional though. And useful for storytelling* for those who *do* want the option.
Right now we have a limitation in adoption though that the game doesn't have adoptive *and* birth parents both recognized, so I'm not really sure that, apart from random allocation to a household (maybe?), there'd be an advantage to this in-game. You'd lose your relationship as things currently are. I'd like to see adoptive and birth parents, though, then there could be lots of great new storytelling around both directions of adoption.
*By which I mean stuff we do while we play, just making stories happen, not posting words and screenshots online, which can be done no matter what the underlying game mechanic is.
