Basement For House With Foundation?

I built my first house with a foundation, then tried to add a basement. No matter what I did, the game just kept telling me that the basement was off lot and wouldn't let me create it. Can we not add basements to houses with foundations?

    Yes, but you have to start the basement outside the foundation and after you've build it, shrink the basement to the size you want it. Otherwise it keeps complaining it's out of lot for some silly reason.
