Do you know what's funny? The Sims 4 didn't include burglars to "prevent anxiety" in some players. To me, the thief seemed like a good mechanic. Yes, you could lose some valuable possessions, but there was a way to prevent it, and the mechanic was simple and transparent. But in The Sims 4, we have much worse things in every sense.
For example, years ago, I installed Eco Lifestyle, but I had no intentions of exploring the new mechanics immediately since I was playing a family in San Myshuno and wanted to finish that first. After a while, I started noticing that the lobby looked strange, but I didn't pay attention. Later, I visited the karaoke bar, but strangely, there was no contest as usual. That's when I realized that the lot category had changed because it no longer had the necessary objects to be considered a karaoke.
After investigating a bit, I found the reason: "Sharing is Caring". I knew that the new expansion included the neighborhood action plan mechanic, but I thought it would be directed at improving the environment. When I understood what had been happening and what it implied, I felt not only the greatest anxiety I've ever experienced playing any other game in the series but also confusion, frustration, anger, HORROR.
For who knows how long, my lots and my own house had been looted without me realizing it. I checked some more lots I had visited since the installation of that expansion, and things were missing from all of them. There was no way to know all the damage this mechanic had caused.
"Fixing" my world took time because there's no way to "reset" the lots. I had to copy lots from a clean save file, but lobbies can't be edited or reset, so there's nothing to be done there. I had to use cheats (something I don't like doing) to eliminate this neighborhood action from almost all the neighborhoods because removing it "legitimately" would have taken weeks. All of this could have been avoided by deactivating a simple option, but I never expected something like this to be implemented just like that. Under an innocent name hid something completely atrocious.
In addition to that, I have to check that every sim who visited my house is not a kleptomaniac, and I can't have roommates since they can cause fires any day, causing me to lose the earnings for that entire week.
Therefore, not including burglars under the argument of "protecting us" seems ironic and ridiculous. Just bring them back.
No. That is false. I don't know why that rumor is STILL going around when it was
debunked years ago by now-former SimGuru Grant.
We don't have them because they haven't added them. Nothing more, nothing less.
